With the laying of the last brick the exterior of building project VOLT in Nieuw Delft has been completed. Delft alderman Martina Huijsmans performed that special task on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 30, together with Rick Kalksma of area developer and investment manager Amvest and Job van Zomeren, director of TBI company ERA Contour. "VOLT is the first development in the Van Leeuwenhoekkwartier: one of three new neighborhoods in the former railroad zone area. Now that the building is out of the scaffolding, you can clearly see that VOLT with its special design is the connection between the existing city and this new part of Delft" said Alderman Huijsmans.
The Delft new construction project was designed by Barcode Architects. ERA Contour is responsible for the development and construction of the plan. Amvest contributed to the development and the Amvest Residential Core Fund will soon own the buildings. It also handles the rental of the mid-range housing and commercial spaces in the plan.

After the last three masonry bricks are also laid, a toast is made to the project's future courtyard. "We put the first sketches of this plan on paper back in 2013. Together with the municipality of Delft and Amvest, we developed it over the past few years into this complete plan called VOLT. That we ourselves are now standing on the courtyard, the place that from next year will be bustling with energy and entrepreneurship, that is very special" says Job van Zomeren of ERA Contour.

VOLT rises in the Van Leeuwenhoekkwartier in Delft. The plan consists of 130 apartments realized in 3 sustainable buildings around a courtyard. The plan makes use of sustainable materials as much as possible, ground heat is applied and the roofs are covered with solar panels. On the first floor is space for restaurants, stores and offices. There will be a parking basement under the complex. The project is aimed at a specific target group: international knowledge workers. Van Zomeren: "In developing the project, we focused on the municipality's ambition to be a magnet for knowledge-intensive companies and knowledge workers by 2025. In VOLT we create a nice place specifically for young professionals from home and abroad who would otherwise, after their studies, leave Delft because there is no suitable housing."

The VOLT project is part of Nieuw Delft, the redevelopment of the railroad zone area. "Until 2025, this area is changing into a pleasant living environment with varied architecture, a city park, and a new canal. It is a completely new part of town, close to the historic center. With three new neighborhoods, Nieuw Delft will provide some 1,200 new homes and more than 40,000 m² of urban functions, such as hospitality, workspace and meeting places." said Alderman Huijsmans.
VOLT is expected to be completed in April 2020.
