Since the government tightened energy performance coefficient (EPC) requirements in new construction projects in 2015, the requirement for the Rc value of roofs is no longer 4.5 but 6.0. This change has led to drastic changes in detailing. "In addition, the demand for sustainable products is growing," knows Kees Korsten, director of Storax. "The number of BREEAM projects has increased by 74 percent in the past year and the Energy Agreement also encourages sustainable measures. Storax is responding to this with DEMAXX, a roof hatch with an Rc value of 6.3."
The central government's goal is that from Jan. 1, 2020, all permit applications for new construction, both residential and non-residential, meet the requirements for nearly energy-neutral buildings (BENG). On Jan. 1, 2015, an important step toward achieving this goal was taken: the EPC for residential and non-residential buildings was tightened from 0.6 to 0.4. In the process, the minimum requirements for thermal resistance (Rc value) were also increased. Since January 1, 2015, the Rc value requirement of ≥ 6.0 m²K/W has applied to newly built roofs. Storax was the first in the market to respond to this as a supplier of, among other things, roof hatches.

The hatch upstand has anti-slip on the top all around, preventing annoying slips.
"DEMAXX offers 'the max' in durability, environmental performance and quality. When developing the roof hatch, we focused not only on high-quality, durable materials, but also on good sealing and excellent thermally separated construction," Korsten says. "Our goal was to achieve the highest possible (insulation) values in the market. Various tests by the SKG (air and water tightness and wind load resistance) and calculations by Peutz show that we succeeded excellently in this.
The DEMAXX roof hatch has an Rc value of no less than 6.3 (lid and curb). The roof hatch contributes significantly to the reduction of CO2-emissions of a building. Moreover, DEMAXX is a Dutch product, which also means that CO2-emissions from transportation to work are minimal."

An SKG** lock and cylinder with inside and outside operation guarantee optimal burglary prevention.
"To prevent thermal bridges and thus heat loss, condensation and mold formation, DEMAXX features a 100% thermally separated construction," says Korsten. "A combination of aluminum cladding (outer construction) and fiberglass-reinforced pultrusion profiles (inner construction) makes the roof hatch not only highly insulating but also indestructible."
In addition to durability and quality, ample attention was paid to operability and safety, says co-owner Mike Straks. "On the inside, DEMAXX is equipped with two gas pressure springs, which ensure that the roof hatch - once the cylinder lock is unlocked - can be opened and closed with minimal force. In the open position, DEMAXX has an automatic locking system, which means that the hatch can never close unexpectedly. Not even in strong winds. The hatch upstand is equipped with anti-slip on all sides at the top, preventing annoying slips. An SKG** lock and cylinder with inside and outside operation guarantee optimum burglary prevention."

In addition to the DEMAXX roof hatch, Storax also supplies (cage) ladders, scissor stairs and safety railings, assuring customers of one complete and appropriate solution for their roof access.
DEMAXX is easy to install thanks to its lightweight construction. "A flange is provided around the roof hatch, in which all mounting holes are already pre-drilled. After mounting on the substructure, the roofer takes care of gluing or burning in the roofing material," Korsten says. "A water stop is provided in the DEMAXX roof hatch, under which the roofing material can be easily applied." Straks: "A supplied installation instruction describes step-by-step the sequence of work, which ensures optimum delivery quality."

Introduced to the market in 2017, DEMAXX has attracted considerable interest from architects, contractors, installation contractors and end users. "The roof hatch is available as standard in three (net) sizes - 70×90, 90×90 and 70×140 cm - and is coated in the color RAL 7047," explains Straks. "On request, other colors are also available." Korsten: "In addition to the DEMAXX roof hatch, we also supply (cage) ladders, scissor stairs and safety railings, assuring customers of one complete and appropriate solution for their roof access."
Storax is a specialist in shutters and offers wall and floor hatches in addition to roof hatches. The Zwijndrecht-based company also supplies N.E.S. escape hatches for underground areas such as parking garages and train and subway stations.
