The steel structure for Van Mossel's dealership in Dordrecht was supplied by Viets Staalconstructie. It produced the steel elements in its own steel construction halls and then gave them the treatment as agreed.
"It was quite an order," says Elbert Hardeman, director of Viets Steel Construction. "It involved over 200 tons of steel and some of the elements had substantial dimensions. For example, there were seven beams with a length of 27 meters. In the process, the elements had to be treated in four different ways. We did the blasting and spraying ourselves, hot-dip galvanizing and powder coating we outsourced to a colleague."
In order to deliver the final results to the construction site just-in-time and sorted, Viets Steel Construction carefully prepared the work. It drew up a tight schedule, which also took into account the space taken up by the long beams. "Such large elements you want to deliver as quickly as possible," explains superintendent Frank Veneklaas. "At those moments you reap the benefits of the fact that Viets Staalconstructie has everything under one roof. The lines of communication are short; many consultations take place simply in the corridors. Because we also have the transport in our own hands, we were able to seamlessly link everything together."
Because of the large formats, the transport did require a special permit. Viets Staalconstructie also took care of that. During the permitted hours - between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. - they transported the steel elements to their destination in two shifts. "Good construction is never about the building elements alone. Only if everything around them is well organized can you achieve that optimum construction speed. Now that was all right with Kleijngeld."
