Elevator manufacturer KONE supplies and assembles nine customized elevator systems for the AFAS Experience Center in Leusden. These range from a logistics elevator in the restaurant to transparent panoramic elevators in the office section. "Our approach based on customization and proven technology fits well with an executive supply to a committed client like AFAS. The end user is also really central," says Project Manager Major Projects Vincent Meijer.
Designing elevator systems with the building owner's Board of Directors at the table is not common in construction, but it was during the realization of the AFAS Experience Center. "Quality is the starting point, starting with the specific wishes of AFAS. For example, for the two theater elevators with 'disco floor', we went with the client to the A'DAM Tower, where we were the first to test this principle for the Netherlands. The panoramic elevators are from our Scenic series - proven technology, in other words. They will have a custom ceiling with LED light screen." The client's aesthetic wishes are at the forefront of the engineering process. "This is what we like to go for: the best 'People Flow Experience'. This is also what AFAS pays maximum attention to. AFAS is a hospitable company and wants to show that to customer and visitor."
Implementation
The logistical and execution cooperation with main contractor Dura Vermeer Bouw Hengelo is also fine in this way, Meijer continues. "All - machine roomless - elevators will be assembled on site from the pit floor, starting from this year's construction period. We don't actually foresee any major challenges in the planning of production, delivery and assembly." Elevator capacities range from 630 to 1270 kilograms. The systems serve four to nine floors, depending on the height of the building section. In addition to the two panoramic elevators, the office section has two concrete elevator cores with standard installations on either side. The domed, externally accessible theater also has four elevator systems, including the two mentioned above. All passenger elevators exit to the parking levels below ground level.
