EMA | Slide formwork and concrete elements

Gleitbau (Salzburg), active worldwide as a specialist in sliding formwork, produces reinforced concrete elements such as silos, cores for apartment buildings, towers, chimneys and solutions for industrial buildings. The company also has extensive experience in prestressed concrete and the realization of elements for high-load applications. 

"Commissioned by construction company Dura Vermeer, we produced the sliding formwork and took care of the realization of the reinforcement and a lot of elements in concrete and reinforced concrete for the new headquarters of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in Amsterdam," says project manager Nikolaus Weise-Schmidbauer. "Actually, we produced the entire concrete core. Due to the weight of the surrounding, later mounted steel structure, we had to look for special solutions to integrate the large reinforced concrete elements during the formwork works."

Commissioned by construction company Dura Vermeer, Gleitbau produced the entire concrete core for the new headquarters of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in Amsterdam.

The tight time schedule created a lot of pressure to adapt the design of the concrete core to meet the special requirements in terms of sliding formwork. Gleitbau worked very closely with the construction company and designer VRI on this. Details to the design were also changed during the implementation phase. "Every project is unique and has to be worked out by our engineers to measure. The complexity of the formwork and the many large concrete elements also made this installation special," says the project manager. "We are subcontractors for formwork work, but also look with the customer at how the design can be adapted to the requirements of the sliding formwork. Other reference projects in the Netherlands include the Mondriaantoren (Amsterdam), the Avi Triade Twence (Hengelo) and the gas station on the Maasvlakte in the port area of Rotterdam."
