For the project IKC Beach Island in Amsterdam WEBO engineers and produces the wood-aluminum frames. The integrated child center is part of the area development on Strandeiland and is designed as a Zero-Efficiency (NOM) building.
WEBO engineers and produces in total 86 wood-aluminum frames. The frames are constructed with a larch wood interior and an aluminum exterior and equipped with triple glazing. These wood-aluminum frames have a high-quality appearance, are low-maintenance and achieve high insulation values. The obtained U-values are well below the applicable legal requirements and contribute to an energy efficient and comfortable indoor climate.
The chosen pale green finish, applied to both the wood and aluminum, creates a calm and consistent façade image that is consistent with the building's function as an integrated children's center.
The wood-aluminum window frames are integrated into the precast façade elements of Vront®, partner of WEBO. The façade elements have a pinewood finish, which is fire-retardant treated. The elements are fully produced and finished in the factory in advance so that they can be installed directly on site. This ensures controlled assembly and a tight construction process.
The IKC will be fully circular in construction and goes beyond energy-neutral construction. The design is in line with the long-term goals of the Dutch Climate Agreement for 2030 and 2050. Material choices, detailing and construction methodology have been approached integrally, with attention to detachability, reuse and low environmental impact over the full life of the building.
