Precast construction with an eye for safety. Concrete shell from A to Z

Mulder Betonbouw was called in to create the concrete shell in the Waterside II project in Rotterdam. The shell consists of walls and floors cast in concrete. In addition, the concrete builder took on the piling of Ytong for the interior walls and HSB elements for the exterior facade. The elements were lifted into place by crane. "This way, we have complete control over the work and don't have to wait for other parties," he said.

It is a sizable project for Mulder Betonbouw. Project Manager Peter van Winden: "We are currently working on it with an average of twenty people, including four braiders. With such a large project, it is a challenge every day to supervise the entire construction process. Our foreman Alwin Noorloos coordinates everything closely with the contractor's foreman. We have prepared everything as much as possible in advance, so it runs smoothly and we don't have any delivery problems."

The concrete builder unburdens contractors by erecting the concrete shell according to the pieces provided by the contractor. "We are completely self-sufficient and supply labor, formwork, cranes, concrete and reinforcement. The contractor handles the engineering himself and we then take on the execution completely. We make sure that within the desired schedule, in good consultation, there is a high-quality shell that the contractor
can build on."

Support with layher construction

Mulder Betonbouw was initially involved in the project by the client of main contractor STATON Construction. The bidding process began in early 2021 and the work was accepted at the end of that year. "In the preliminary stage, we discussed with STATON Bouw how best to approach this complex project, also in terms of safety. Because the building is completely prefabricated all around, we support it with a Layher construction. This allows us to ensure stability before and during pouring."

This is the first time Mulder Concrete Construction has worked with STATON Construction, and it is going very well. "We also do this kind of work for other contractors. Because we have the complete package in-house, including Layher and outriggers for floors, we are flexible.
That's our strength."
