TBI company ERA Contour will start work on the two middle blocks on Stadhouderslaan this week. A total of 48 apartments are involved. These will be preserved in occupied condition. After the adjustments, the homes will be zero on the meter. The appearance of the apartments will also be upgraded.

Major modifications are required to make the homes Zero-Meter. The houses will have a prefabricated and insulated front facade with stone strips and integrated plastic window frames. Furthermore, they will be equipped with triple glazing and a new roof will be placed over the old one. Solar panels will also be installed, the gas connection will disappear and sustainable systems for heating, ventilation and hot water will be installed.
The project has an innovative first: the outdoor units of the NOM systems are prefabricated with cabinet and all. As a result, they can be directly stacked on the project like matching Lego bricks, in such a way that they exactly match the apartments in question. The emergency window frames used are circular; they are made from window frames from the existing homes. They serve as temporary façade infills until the new insulated façade element is installed. Residents thus retain their daylight. In planning for sustainability, ERA Contour also paid specific attention to the project's surroundings. For example, many of the subcontractors selected are from Ridderkerk itself. But the residents of Stadhouderslaan have also been considered; by using existing homes and garage boxes on the project as storage, work and shelters, there is no need for a construction site on the street.
Director-director of Wooncompas Alfred van den Bosch addressed the residents, who had received their own toast package in advance, from the street side: "Today we are starting the preservation of your homes. This may cause some inconvenience in the coming period, but eventually you will get a more beautiful and sustainable home in return. A home that is ready for the future. That's really something to look forward to and that's why we're celebrating together today!"

Michel Ouwens, deputy director of Existing Buildings at ERA Contour, also expressed his pride for this project: "We are extremely pleased to be able to make Ridderkerk a little more beautiful and sustainable in this way. A nice contribution to the sustainability of the housing stock, and a renewed, comfortable home for 48 residents. That's what we do it for!".
ERA Contour will start work immediately. The preserved apartments are expected to be completed before the construction period.
