Extreme demolition work requires a lot of power. Metabo's new SDS-max combi and chisel hammers meet this need with powerful Brushless motors and an optimized impact mechanism. As a result, the Metabo hammers have the fastest drilling speeds and very best demolition capacity on the market to date. But that's not all: with double vibration protection and effective dust extraction (certified by TNO), the new SDS-max hammers make heavy work significantly lighter. A 6 m long cord also ensures optimum freedom on the construction site.
Full speed ahead
The new SDS-max combi hammers KHEV in the 5, 8 and 11 kg class, as well as the new SDS-max chisel hammers MHEV in the 5 and 11 kg class, are all equipped with powerful and robust Brushless motors. "Brushless motors have better efficiency, a longer service life and require less maintenance," explains Jörg Stoschus, chief of the competence center for construction and renovation at Metabo. In combination with specially optimized, extremely powerful impact mechanisms, the new SDS-max hammers therefore have a high drilling speed and a high demolition capacity. Brushless electronics keep the speeds and the number of blows constant under heavy load. If necessary, they can also be lowered depending on the application. With the hammers, the percussion mechanisms and motors are mounted in housings made of die-cast aluminum. This gives them an even longer service life and effectively protects them from external shocks. The factory in Nürtingen guarantees the service life of the machine with an uncompromising three-year warranty, which even covers parts subject to wear and tear.
Always a firm grip
"SDS-max hammers are used daily for a wide variety of drilling and demolition jobs. They must get the job done quickly and powerfully - and not also complicate the already power-hungry work by black vibration," says Stoschus. With the new SDS-max combi hammers KHEV 5-40 BL, 8-45 BL and 11-52 BL as well as the chisel hammers MHEV 5 BL and 11 BL , the vibrations are even doubly dampened: On the one hand, the handle and the combination of motor and gear are decoupled from each other. On the other hand, an impact-absorbing counter mass reduces vibrations. "This special anti-vibration system effectively counteracts the large forces that inevitably arise while working with the machines," explains Stoschus. "Weights supported in springs reduce the vibrations without negatively affecting machine performance. As a result, the operator is exposed to less vibration and can work longer with the hammers."
Effective, systematic dust extraction
Beyond vibration, another thing complicates the work: dust. Because hammer drilling or chiseling into concrete, masonry or stone is anything but clean work. "Effective dust extraction is not only good for your health, but also required," says Stoschus. The ESA max dust extraction set, which is interchangeable with the new SDS-max hammers, can be used in combination with various hammer drill and chisel attachments in a wide variety of hammer drilling and chiseling applications. Installation is simple and tool-free. ESA max can be combined with all new Metabo SDS-max hammers since 2018 and all Metabo M- and H-class all-purpose drills. Drills and chisels can even be changed without disconnecting the extractor.
Strong together
And of course Metabo has the right accessories: "For the SDS-max, Metabo covers the complete range of accessories - from basic accessories to premium quality," says Product Manager Alexandra Haas. With its unique carbide head with four cutting edges, the new SDS-max Pro4 Premium drill bit is particularly robust and has a long service life, even when drilling in reinforced concrete. The strong welded connection between steel body and solid carbide head ensures extremely high load and heat resistance. "As a result, the SDS-max Pro4 Premium drill bit has a 50% longer lifetime and is 25% faster than the current market standard," says Haas. The sharp 90° centering tip drills accurately and stably into the material. The drill bit covers all common applications with diameters from 16 to 28 mm. For drill holes from 12 to 52 mm in concrete, masonry and natural stone, the proven SDS-max Pro4 hammer drill bit with a strong solid carbide center tip is suitable. In the entry-level segment, the new four-edged SDS-max Classic drill bit with a drilling diameter of 16 to 40 mm is the right choice. "In addition, we offer all chisels and drilling crowns," says Haas. With accessories, machine and dust extraction, this results in a complete system that offers the maximum in power and service life.
