In today's architecture, daylight is increasingly used as the starting point of design. This is because sunlight and daylight have a beneficial effect on energy costs and the perception of space. With the application of triple and insulated glass, combined with optimally insulated profiles, energy is saved and it is easier to comply with current building requirements. The profiles are available in aluminum, wood or a combination of both.

Ultra-slim profiles with large glass surfaces ensure maximum daylight penetration and the patented multifunctional thermal break in the profiles of the folding walls offers optimal insulation with U-values of up to 0.8 W/m²K. This also makes the folding walls suitable for passive house construction. The large-scale opening options allow sufficient ventilation and merge inside and outside.
Healthy and energy-neutral living is also an important theme in urban areas. A high-profile example is The Valley, designed by architecture firm MVRDV on the Zuidas in Amsterdam. A quirky building with a new form of urban living where the best of both worlds meet: city life in a natural green environment where work, living and relaxation are combined. The name Valley is derived from the imposing terraced facades. In the living area, the apartments are equipped with glass folding walls to shape the interplay between inside and outside. Solarlux is supplying balcony glazing and the Highline folding wall system for this project, with ultra-slim profiling and special corner arrangements.

This was achieved by means of a double climate facade, which makes optimum use of daylight and manually controls the supply of fresh air. Almost exclusive use is made of the power of nature: solar and geothermal energy. Staff are able to actively influence the indoor climate and temperature via the facade. The building thus sets new standards for sustainable development; both ecologically, economically and from a human perspective.
