Sloterdijk is rapidly changing from business district in a mixed city district. In the coming years, thousands of new homes, restaurants and many (cultural) facilities will be added, and older office buildings will be innovatively renovated. All these new developments are now being charted brought to you by 'UPtown Sloterdijk', a new initiative by several developers and entrepreneurs, CBRE and the City of Amsterdam.
The housing supply in Sloterdijk is set to triple in the coming years with the arrival of 7 new housing projects, both new construction and transformation of old offices. There are currently 605 housing units in Sloterdijk. With the 100,000 m² of housing area under development, 1,500 to 2,000 homes will be added in the next 3 to 5 years.
New meeting places and initiatives in the areas of hospitality, culture, sports and entertainment are springing up all over Sloterdijk. For example, there is the new padel court and the Holland Casino got a branch there in 2018. Other planned facilities include an elementary school, supermarket and new sports and gaming facilities. Sloterdijk will also be the center area of the future "Port-City," a new district with 40,000 to 70,000 new homes.

Sloterdijk is also further developing as an office district with the arrival of new companies (such as APG, Intertrust, Body & Fit and advertising agency Wayne Parker Kent), many of which are moving into completely renovated, modernized office buildings, such as EDGE and Q-Port.
"For years Sloterdijk was mainly known as a one-sided office area," says Rudolf de Boer, Managing Director at real estate consultant CBRE Netherlands. "But with all the recent developments and plans, that image no longer matches reality. You won't recognize Sloterdijk in the coming years: it is a multifunctional, modern and sustainable urban area in development. With this initiative, we want to show that Sloterdijk is transforming into a lively, mixed urban district."
René Koning, development manager Vertical Amsterdam at Heijmans Vastgoed: "The potential of Sloterdijk as a residential area is enormous. A new Amsterdam city district is being created here with a nice mix of residents and entrepreneurs. That is why we have taken the step to be the first to start a large new construction project with owner-occupied homes here. We will start construction early next year."
UPtown Sloterdijk launched a website with all the new projects and initiatives in the urban area: https://www.uptownsloterdijk.nl/. More information and figures can also be found in the fact sheet about (future) developments in Sloterdijk.
For UPTown Sloterdijk, 9 parties joined forces: APG, BPD, CBRE, EDGE, Municipality of Amsterdam, Heijmans, NSI, Synchroon and TMG. They all have a link to Sloterdijk and therefore want to jointly commit to the development of the urban area.
