Project City Icon in Amsterdam is not only unique in location and form, but also when it comes to ventilation techniques. No fewer than four (!) ventilation systems are being combined in the characteristic new building. The complete systems are being supplied and installed by STEBOMA as a subcontractor of Heddes Bouw & Ontwikkeling.
New construction homes today are very well insulated, says Jan Tromp, project manager at STEBOMA. "Not surprisingly, because a good ventilation system is essential to allow both homes and residents to breathe, ensure their health and comfort, and prevent moisture problems. By ventilating, used air is efficiently removed to the outside and enough fresh air comes in. In City Icon, we implement this in various ways. For example, the 104 houses in the so-called '360 Twins' are equipped by us with very compact CERA-units, which provide fresh air to the living and bedrooms 24/7: demand-controlled and based on local CO2 measurements. The CERA units are connected by shaft ducts to two air handling units on the roof. Chosen were FlaktGroup WTW units of up to 9,000 m3/h each, providing highly efficient heat recovery." Following on from the CERA units and air handling units, STEBOMA is also responsible for associated plastic roof channels and roof hoods, which are being engineered and installed in close cooperation with the contractor.
For ventilation in the six homes in the middle section, which are being built between the two towers, the ventilation specialist from Beverwijk is installing WTW units of the Vasco brand. "These units are equipped with a counterflow heat exchanger, which ensures that fresh outside air is preheated almost free of charge by the residual heat from the exhausted inside air," Tromp said. "In the twelve plinth houses (up to the second floor), mechanical ventilation units from ClimaRad are provided."
For the underground parking garage, STEBOMA has partnered with HC PS. In addition to the fans, this specialist in parking garage ventilation also installed a CO-LPG detection system, which prevents health risks due to excessive concentrations of carbon monoxide (CO) or LPG gases at all times. Thus, comfort and health go perfectly hand in hand in this project.
