The W-installations of Westfield Mall of the Netherlands fall largely under the responsibility of Roodenburg Group. Project leader Ferry van de Kamp: "The project has a large number of specials, such as the Dining Plaza, where an extensive installation package has been applied. Moreover, in cooperation with drinking water company Dunea, a unique link was made between the WKO and the tap water system."

Heat and cold extracted from the building during the seasons are stored in the ground and once pumped are transferred to the mall's air conditioning system via a heat exchanger. The hot spring provides the heat for the heating system; the water then cools, flows to the cold spring and can be used to meet some of the cooling demand in the summer. Van de Kamp: "Because the owner expects a heat surplus, an additional cold source was sought and found for the hottest days. Westfield Mall of the Netherlands is sustainably cooled with river water filtered in the dunes, which is cold in winter and warm in summer, in line with the innovative use in the Mall. To this end, a link was made between the CHP plant and Dunea's tap water system, which runs right alongside the mall."

The drinking water company laid a bypass to allow the cold water from the transmission line to flow past the heat exchanger of the WKO. "A unique cooperation between URW and Dunea to which we were allowed to contribute," says Van de Kamp. Roodenburg Group is further providing the climate installations of all traffic areas in the shopping center, as well as the building management system (with maintenance monitoring based on IoT). "The installation contract has some important specials: in certain building parts, such as Fresh! fresh market and the Dining Plaza, the air treatment systems have been scaled up in connection with catering activities. And underfloor heating/cooling was also applied to the Central Plaza. Toward completion in July, we are dealing with a dynamic process: store concepts and anticipated openings change with regularity. We adjust our planning as best we can to meet the wishes of URW and the store operators."
