Reppel supplied some 750 m2 of LEWIS floor slabs for the renovation part of the Galvanischool in The Hague, including sound-insulating overlay strips type MTA15/7 and LEWIS rock wool edge strips. The company also advised on the floor construction and installation of the LEWIS floor on the existing, wooden construction.
The first contacts on this project date back to 2017, says Reppel sales manager Bob van der Horst. "Initially, consultancy firm Madar asked us to help think about a sound-insulating floor in combination with underfloor heating for the upper floors in this hundred-year-old school. At a later stage we also spoke with the then main contractor. We took care of the whole technical story: from the advice for the LEWIS floor structure to be made to working out the laying plans with the most economical slab lengths. At the end of 2019, we were about to deliver, when the contractor went bankrupt."
This resulted in considerable stagnation. Eventually, through a new tendering process, the municipality ended up with contractor Van Wijnen Stolwijk, but the corona crisis and then a construction freeze caused even more delays. "At the end of 2022, everything was picked up again. We shared the original pieces with Van Wijnen. We also consulted several times on such matters as the construction of the floor and the laying plans and advised on the mortar to be used. In this project, the LEWIS dovetailed sheets are finished with a poured screed mortar. This ensures the high load-bearing capacity of the LEWIS floors and the efficiency of the underfloor heating."
The LEWIS Dovetail sheeting and accessories were supplied through BMN Bouwmaterialen Haastrecht. All in all, it is a project with several bumps in the road, yet Van der Horst is satisfied. "Projects like this are right up our alley. We enjoy being involved early on in technical issues and being able to share our expertise in construction meetings with the structural engineer, contractor and installer. That way you get the best result. The foreman was also pleased with the cooperation, so in the end everyone is satisfied."
