Peace, space and close to everything: against the beautiful backdrop of the Bergse Achterplas and Bergse Voorplas in Rotterdam-Hillegersberg stands Hof van Cossee, an elegant and sustainable residential building with 13 single-family homes and 31 apartments. The project is realized in the form of a court, surrounding an enclosed courtyard garden and with ample attention to greenery. Characteristic of Alsemgeest Design & Build's design are the spacious balconies, large areas of glass and masonry facades, combined with the expressive white façade bands of Aldowa Composites.
Commissioned by Batenburg Bouw & Ontwikkeling, Aldowa Composites produced, supplied and installed approximately 800 m¹ of facade bands in RAL9010, which accentuate the floor edges of the floors in a high-quality manner. "Our aluminum composite is also continued in the roof and fascia edges (approx. 350 m¹) and in the ceilings of the balconies and stairwell (approx. 400 m²)," explains Lex Buter, project coordinator at Aldowa Composites. "The panels are composed of a vision panel of aluminum composite and a plastic core, creating an extremely flat panel." The panels for the facade bands have a height dimension of about 600 mm and flow harmoniously into the balconies of the houses, he says. "A special feature is that all the outer edges are curved (bended). As a result, you don't look at the core of the material anywhere." For fastening, Aldowa BV made an aluminum rear construction with brackets and corner lines.
In the preliminary phase, Batenburg Bouw & Ontwikkeling, its masonry partner and Aldowa Composites closely coordinated all the details. "Nevertheless, the contractor eventually decided to measure the panels on the job," Buter says. "As a result, we had to deal with a large variation in panel sizes. To ensure that all panels were mounted in exactly the right places, they were delivered numbered."
One challenge was speed in the project, he says. "For example, the part that the utility parties had to access had to be realized at a rapid pace. After all, that was the only way the construction train could stay on steam. In addition, we were dealing with a project location right in the center of Rotterdam-Hillegersberg, so just-in-time deliveries were necessary. For example, to avoid traffic jams. The bulk of the assembly work could then be carried out from the ceilings and balconies. We were also able to use construction scaffolding and an aerial platform."
Special lines, exceptional architecture and high-profile facades: whatever dream clients in architecture, construction and infra have: Aldowa makes the wildest ideas come true. "No job is too big and no idea too complex," Buter emphasizes. "We are constantly exploring the boundaries of technology, material and architecture. Moreover, we find a suitable solution for every assembly challenge. Hof van Cossee is a great calling card for this."
