A facade with many faces along the A9

Business park De Etalage in Alkmaar will soon be enriched with a striking new building: the new headquarters of Vercom International. A building that should not only be functional, but also visually impressive along the busy A9 motorway. The construction of this impressive building is in full swing and the facade builders of JM van Delft & zn are playing a crucial role in its realization.

JM van Delft & zn has the whole package. With expertise ranging from steel to aluminum facade systems, it is one of the most total facade builders in our country. Project managers Jan-Willem Richt, responsible for concrete projects, and Vince van Aalten, expert on steel facades, combine their knowledge and experience to make the new headquarters in Alkmaar a success. "We like to give advice," says Richt. "Every project deserves attention and there is really no such thing as a 'standard' project. That's what makes our work so challenging
and interesting."

From design to reality

For Vercom's new headquarters in Alkmaar, Richt and Van Aalten are responsible for the aluminum and steel facade components, respectively. The building is characterized by a striking facade designed by Dedato Designers and Architects. JM van Delft & zn ensures that the design comes to life. "The brief was clear. We knew immediately, thanks to main contractor Hercuton, what we had to do," says Van Aalten. "But the challenges of getting everything right in the drawing work were certainly there. Through short lines of communication with the client, we were able to tackle these bottlenecks early on." And the roof terrace on the second floor is no one-two punch either. "A segmented curtain wall on a roof terrace is less simple to create than a straightforward facade," Richt says. "Especially in terms of wind and water tightness, it requires extra attention. Those 'tricky' points in such a project are what we like best. We see it as puzzles you have to solve. Just let your brain crack."

Everything under one roof

The Alkmaar project is special for the facade builders from Drunen. The combination of different materials and techniques throws high marks. "We divided the window frames all into different categories because of the various requirements for the glass," Richt explains. "From the outside you can't see any of that, but still it's crucial. That's what our craftsmanship is all about."

The variety of materials not only requires good cooperation with the external partners, but is also an extra task for JM van Delft & zn itself. "I and my 'steel team' are still in the preliminary drawing work, while Jan-Willem and his 'aluminum group' can almost start building already," says Van Aalten. "So they have to take into account that in a while we will have to supply our steel through their facade. That's a nice internal cooperation." And mainly also very practical, because because JM van Delft & zn has all branches of the sport in-house, that cooperation always goes smoothly. "That's very easy communication," Richt emphasizes. "And good communication means we can deliver the quality we promise." That quality can also be admired in Alkmaar from mid-2025.
