Genemuiden/Landgraaf - Pleijsier Hotelrenovation has started the renovation of the Alpine Hotel at SnowWorld in Landgraaf. In the first phase, sixty hotel rooms over three floors will be completely modernized. The hotel is thus responding to the higher demands of guests and SnowWorld's sustainability ambitions, while the doors will remain open to visitors and international ski teams.

Mountain resort and sustainable innovations

SnowWorld has the ambition to develop its locations into fully-fledged resorts, where guests can experience the real mountain feeling with matching activities and style. The renovation of the Alpine Hotel in Landgraaf fits in seamlessly with this. In order to respond to today's needs, the number of comfortable family rooms for four people, among other things, will be greatly expanded.

Sustainability is a common thread in the project, matching SnowWorld's goal of being completely climate and energy neutral by 2030. During the renovation, new window frames will be installed and insulation improved, and the rooms will receive smart domotics. These building management systems automatically adjust cooling and heating to the occupancy rate of the rooms. There will also be innovative use of energy and materials. For example, heat from the ski slope is being reused in the hotel and the new floor covering is made from recycled truck tarps.

Rebuilding with the store open

As general contractor, Pleijsier Hotelrenovatie is performing all the construction work, including the new layouts, stud walls, stucco work and interior construction, in collaboration with Kroeze Interieur. This is a logistical challenge because the hotel does not close during the renovation.

This allows training groups to stay at the ski site, an important condition for SnowWorld. To prevent nuisance, strict agreements have been made about noise, which means, for example, that early morning drilling is not allowed. For efficient removal of demolition waste and supply of new materials, a large construction elevator has been installed near the balconies.

In addition, the project has a hard deadline. The first phase (floors three, four and five) must be completed by early June. Immediately after that, the hotel is fully booked because of Pinkpop, followed by international ski teams from 38 countries coming to train in Landgraaf during the summer.

Confidence and flexibility

The project is the first collaboration between SnowWorld and Pleijsier. Wim Hubrechtsen, CEO of SnowWorld, explains the choice of contractor: “Besides nice references and a good price, the human aspect is very important to us. Personal contact and short lines of communication give confidence.”

Despite the time constraints, there is plenty of room for quality improvement during the construction process. Hubrechtsen: “What I like is that we have the same attention to detail. Rebuilding with the store open means tight timing, but that doesn't mean we handle it quickly and no longer have an eye for detail. If we see during the work that something could be done better, we look for the right solution for it together.”

The Pleijsier Hotel Renovation team, led by superintendent Marcel Albers and project leader Rene Oostwoud, also experienced the cooperation as very positive. With a varied team of professionals, the work is running smoothly on schedule. The SnowWorld technical department also regularly lends a helping hand with its own equipment, which further strengthens the mutual involvement in the project.

After the summer, Pleijsier Hotelrenovation will begin the second phase of the project, modernizing the remaining floors.
