DOMUSDELA, Eindhoven | New installations for century-old landmark

Making complexity self-evident: for Schrijvers Technische Installaties from Oss it is a popular and frequently used activity. The full-service installation company, subsidiary of Hendriks Bouw en Ontwikkeling, provided the recently opened DOMUSDELA with all the necessary E and W facilities. An assignment described by director Michael Kuylaars as comprehensive and complex, but also wonderful and extremely instructive....

At Schrijvers Technische Installaties they do not shy away from any challenge. The realization of the electrical and mechanical facilities (including technical rooms) within DOMUSDELA is therefore right up the alleround installation company's alley. "Both in terms of size and complexity, this is a unique project," says Kuylaars. "You are talking about the transformation of a monumental object consisting of several buildings into a modern accommodation that has to meet the needs of the guests and operators down to the last detail. It's not surprising that during the execution of the project you are regularly confronted with surprises and have to make the necessary changes in the meantime in order to find the right technical installation solution. Besides the size, that fact made this assignment special. However, the biggest challenge lay in the extremely short preparation time. Because although there was hardly any time for engineering, we still completed this five million euro project in less than a year."

Within the original complex, Schrijvers' work began at absolute zero. The replacement of some scarce E and W facilities was kept to a minimum. "Except for some existing facilities in the church and chapel, all installations were engineered and installed by us from the ground up," Kuylaars continues. "You're talking about the climate control, lighting, fire alarm system, power supply, distribution devices, cabling, sewerage, rainwater drainage and plumbing, among other things. On the one hand, you strive to incorporate the technology as inconspicuously as possible and achieve optimal comfort for visitors. On the other hand, it is important to respect and preserve the old architecture as much as possible. In my opinion, we succeeded very well in this, not least thanks to the perfect cooperation with client Dela and general contractor Bouwbedrijf Van de Ven. The collective was the decisive force here to achieve a great final result."
