The Coating Master was commissioned by Bouwgroep Dijkstra Draisma to perform various coating activities at the new construction of Waddenzee World Heritage Center in Lauwersoog.
Nylo Food & Protective Coatings' hygienic, specialty and salt-resistant coating systems are used in various quarantine areas, the seal center's outdoor enclosure and basins. The Coating Master is a certified applicator of this brand, and the supplier provides warranties of five to 10 years on the application provided.
The Coating Master was founded about three years ago by Angelique Nauta-Alberts with support from her husband, technical advisor Alexander Alberts. Alberts is a familiar name in the world of specialty coatings, he has been active in it for thirty years. Alberts: "We mainly provide specialist and hygienic coating systems for the food industry, swimming pools, wellness and zoos, among others. We work for Ben & Jerry's and Coca-Cola, for example, because our coatings are extremely food-safe. One of our systems has also been tested for saltwater application. The coating is antibacterial, easy to clean and there is no egress of substances. This makes it very suitable for animal housing, as in this project. Especially in the quarantine areas, you don't want residue or bacteria left behind." In fact, the World Heritage Center also cares for sick and injured seals until they can be released back into the wild. These seals swim around in the seal pools on the second floor of the building.
The Coating Master was asked by main contractor Bouwgroep Dijkstra Draisma to present the coating for this project. "We immediately had a good feeling about it. This contractor is known for asking specific questions about sustainability and quality and I was able to answer these well," said Alberts. "For us it is a special and extensive assignment, we are very happy with that." Work will not start for the company until most of the World Heritage Center is ready: during 2024. First of all, the buffer basement will then be coated. "This is the collection tank under the building in which the buffer water is stored, which offsets water that is filtered. Of course, it is important that in the buffer cellar bacteria cannot attach, so less cleaning agents are needed. What doesn't get dirty, you don't need to clean."
It will be a labor-intensive project for The Coating Master. "We're going there with a crew of people. We have to deal with drying time, so the product has to be processed quickly."
