Company manager Gerard Koobs says, "All our expertise in demolition work is covered here: renovation demolition, total demolition, drilling/sawing and asbestos removal."
"In addition to asbestos remediation, we began stripping the demolition parts of schools and gymnasium in January this year. As many non-stone materials as possible have been removed. Machine demolition should be faster as a result." Part of the South School has been demolished; part is being renovated. "The demolition parts have been cut loose from the parts to be retained. The renovation parts will be left structurally intact. Among other things, we are removing ceilings, floor finishes and walls, and making recesses for new stairs. The facade will also be modified in several places."
After manually detaching the non-monumental part of the former gymnasium, this building section is completely gone. After asbestos removal and renovation demolition, three low-rise dwellings will be built in the part to be retained. In the monumental HBS section, building parts are being cut loose that will be retained for renovation with housing. "This building section, too, has now been gutted. Many walls have to be demolished and the former auditorium will become a courtyard garden after removal of roof and first floor."
Circular demolition is part of the process. "In the total demolition of the South School, we removed the roof tiles and repurposed them elsewhere. The roof sheathing with underlying beam timbers, radiators and plumbing, as well as floor and wall tiles will also largely be repurposed. Sustainable demolition is the future."
