The building, located on the Spuiplein, will be the new home of the Zuiderstrand Theater, the Nederlands Dans Theater, the Residentie Orkest and the Royal Conservatory of Music as of September. Goudriaan Staalconstructies from Oudewater was responsible for the supply and assembly of a wide range of stairs, balustrades and banisters for this immense complex. An assignment that symbolizes the varied qualities of the steel specialist.
With, among other things, four separate halls, an area of approximately 7.5 soccer fields and a total capacity of 4,800 visitors, the sustainably built Amare can rightly be called special. The stainless steel and steel elements supplied by Goudriaan also contribute to this. When the doors open after the summer, the company's craftsmanship can be admired throughout the building. "First of all, we made all the stairs," explains project manager/calculator Ton Roest on behalf of Goudriaan. "A total of some thirty of them, ranging from small stairs with two or three steps to some fifteen-ton structures fifteen meters long and two meters wide that connect the storey floors. Ultimately heavy guys that are composed of stair stringers of no less than fifteen millimeters thick steel plate with steps welded in between. Designed in-house, manufactured and, powder-coated, installed on site during the construction phase by us using a construction crane."
In addition to stairs, Goudriaan underlined its versatility with the delivery and assembly of various other elements. For example, the company provided the landings which, in order to prevent noise or vibration, were incorporated into the construction near the halls without contact. "Again, you're talking about pretty heavy elements," Roest says. "They are therefore attached to the roof of the main structure using large Willems anchors. The balustrades used for the landings and platform edges, 350 meters long in total, consist of a stylish yet well thought-out combination of thick stainless steel plates and safety glass. These glass plates, also supplied and fitted by us, are finished at the top with a stainless steel profile."
The total solution supplied by Goudriaan also includes the installation of stairs within the building's six emergency stairwells. Provisions that, like the other stairway connections in the complex, were completed with a total of some one thousand meters of stainless steel handrails. Finally, the steel specialist signed for the manufacture of the slat railings made of solid strips, which can be admired on the outside of The Hague's newest eye-catcher.
