Fire Safe Almende College

On the edge of the education campus in Silvolde, the Almende College has appeared, a comprehensive school for secondary education with some 2,300 students. The school meets the standards for Fresh Schools Class A and was also made fireproof by WIHA Fire Prevention. This company made the installation-technical fire-resistant provisions.

The new Almende College has a gross floor area of 5,585 m². It was a medium-sized project for WIHA Fire Prevention. As soon as the installer had completed a portion of the installation, they sprang into action to fireproof the piping. All actions were carried out according to the applicable guidelines, ensuring that the fire prevention met all the necessary requirements. WIHA Fire Prevention was working there in phases from May through December 2020. "Per compartment we handled it. We walked behind the installer, so to speak," says Jeroen Tempels, director at WIHA Fire Prevention.

Main contractor and also installer was Binx Smartility. For WIHA Fire Prevention, it was the second assignment for this client. "We had one point of contact for all disciplines and that made the cooperation very pleasant. Appointments were kept and communication was good. It was the beginning of a nice further cooperation," says Tempels.

WIHA Fire Prevention was still based in Dinxperlo at the time of the project, so this project in Silvolde was also a bit of a prestige project, he explains. "It was practically in our backyard and that's why we enjoyed doing this assignment extra. Almende College is a good school with a positive atmosphere. That's why everyone wanted to make something beautiful out of it."
