From transparent strip to glass eye-catcher

A functional and at the same time aesthetic building in which it is pleasant to work and stay. These were important starting points for the new construction of Domino's Pizza in Nieuwegein. The aluminum curtain walls of JM van Delft & zn contribute to this to a large extent.

"Our curtain walls are located on different parts of the building," explains project manager Mandy van Erp of JM van Delft & zn. "A total of over 1,200 square meters are involved. We applied most of the curtain walls to the office section, where they make an important contribution to the pleasant working environment with lots of light and space. The transparent strip of curtain walls on the side of the hall also provides the necessary daylight. What I personally really like is the patio. We provided that entirely with glass, making it a real eye-catcher."

Years of cooperation

In July 2019, Willy Naessens Netherlands commissioned JM van Delft & zn to realize the curtain walls. Van Erp: "We had already been involved in the work for more than six months at that time, helping to calculate the implementation of the facade design. The fact that we have a good relationship and have worked together for years helps enormously in such a project. Together we have already come up with and developed many façade solutions, including details. Moreover, we know exactly what we can expect from each other. That works efficiently and pleasantly."

Production and assembly

On September 2, 2019, JM van Delft & zn started drawing out the facade. Shortly thereafter, the curtain walls went into production. "At the end of October, we assembled the first curtain wall elements," Van Erp informs. "By January of this year, all the curtain walls were in place." When asked what the biggest challenge on this job was, she answers, "There were hardly any. On the construction site we had sufficient space and because of the excellent cooperation with Willy Naessens Netherlands, the execution went smoothly. The only point of attention were the slats on the front of the building. These were mounted by another subcontractor, to which we had to adjust our work. That also went without a hitch. All in all, we can look back on a nice project with a beautiful end result."
