The developer and architect wanted to restore the building, which will serve as a multipurpose building with offices, stores, restaurants and a bicycle storage facility, to its former glory. Especially the facade should become one of the eye-catchers. Facade builder JM van Delft & zn is providing the complete outer shell for House Modernes.
"We were involved in this project at an early stage by developer Syntrus Achmea Real Estate & Finance and ZZDP Architects. After many years of preparation, we were commissioned to renovate the entire facade of this iconic building," says Albert Emmers, project manager at JM van Delft & zn. "On behalf of main contractor Heilijgers Bouw, we are responsible for the engineering, production, delivery and assembly of a wide variety of facade elements: the steel canopies, the balcony railings and the slender steel exterior window frames, which easily withstand wind force 11, as well as the window frames for the rear facades, the roof structure and the skylights, all made of aluminum."
Family firm JM van Delft & zn specializes in the development, production, delivery and assembly of aluminum and steel window frames and other façade elements and is no stranger to such complex inner-city projects. In similar projects, for example Rokin Plaza and Scheldeplein in Amsterdam, the firm already proved that it can completely unburden clients. "We perform everything in-house, also for this project. Since this old building had already been renovated several times and hardly any drawings were available, everything was measured digitally in order to work accurately. This way, no problems occurred during production and assembly," Emmers said. "That on-site assembly is done by our own employees. Since this building is located on a very busy site, the necessary arrangements also have to be made in terms of logistics. In the meantime, we have already assembled a large part of the elements and by the beginning of April we will complete this project completely."
