Galapagos' new building has a special, open look. Stalent BV supplied much of the visible (and invisible) steelwork, combining steel with bamboo steps, handrails and glass balustrades.
"It is a challenging and complex project, where the schedule was already fixed and a lot of indoor work had to be done," says Cees van der Bas, owner of Stalent BV. The firm is responsible for the steel stairs, balustrades and bamboo railings. Most prominent will soon be the wide podium staircase in the atrium, which is immediately visible upon entering. "The stringers of this staircase are steel, but the bamboo treads define the look," says Stalent.
Stalent is used to working in the higher end. "Such a level of finishing is not foreign to us. We are responsible for the entire process. From engineering, where everything is worked out in BIM, to assembly. As a result, the client has a single point of contact. We work with steel, but the enormous amount of bamboo and glass were also no problem for us." For indoor assembly, Stalent used various tools. At the time this article was written, the company was still working on this project. "We are doing this on behalf of our regular partner De Vries en Verburg, a cooperation that is going perfectly."
