DC-Hydra: sustainable from façade to climate technology

DC-Hydra is located in Utrecht, in the Lage Weide industrial park. The building is designed to create an alignment with the surrounding nature. The sprinkler tank is set up as a permanent insect hotel and the facade and grounds are provided with lots of greenery. Great attention has been paid to sustainability.

The entire building is equipped with a sustainable and comfortable climate system, controlled by the control system. The climate systems in the two office buildings each consist of a separate VRF system for cooling and heating the rooms, combined with a peripheral strip of floor heating. 

Efficient energy exchange

By clever design and by making optimal use of the current technical capabilities of the VRF system, the various cold and hot energy flows within the building can be put to good use where they are needed. Heat surplus (in cooling) can be reused in another room. As a result, optimum system efficiency can be achieved with minimal energy.

Air Treatment

The offices are each equipped with their own air treatment system, equipped with a heat wheel. The entire warehouse is equipped with an underfloor heating system. Heat generation is done by means of a sustainable air/water heat pump located on the roof. The project was worked out in a BIM model. During the preparation phase, different parties (from architect to contractor and installer) add their own aspects as information to the model. During this process, any bottlenecks become visible, allowing them to be solved immediately. All the information together forms a complete 3D model.

The advantage of this way of working is that any bottlenecks can be identified and resolved as early as the preparation stage, making the execution run more smoothly. As a result, the project is completed quickly and qualitatively within the agreed
