A fine climate, well regulated and with optimum efficiency

Sustainable distribution center for PLUS in Deventer

At A1 Bedrijvenpark West in Deventer, the finishing touches are being put on a brand new distribution center for PLUS. The 77,000 m² building will be part of an entirely new distribution network for the supermarket chain and will supply a large proportion of the PLUS supermarkets with fresh products on a daily basis. The new building will be realized in accordance with the BREEAM-NL 'Excellent' certification criteria. To meet these criteria, the climate control system, realized by Batenburg Installatietechniek, must be extra energy-efficient with the supply of a lot of fresh outside air and optimal control options for a fine room climate. This creates a pleasant and attractive working environment for the employees.

The PLUS distribution center is being developed by HBC; a collaboration between HVBM Vastgoed and Bruil Bouw Groep. "Commissioned by HBC, we provide the air conditioning of the offices, canteen, warehouse and technical service area," says Marcel Jager, chief engineer at Batenburg Installatietechniek. "From heating to air treatment and including associated control technology. The offices can also be cooled energetically."

Sustainable use of waste heat

The new building contains several cold rooms, for which Veld Koeltechniek is constructing a large ammonia (NH3) refrigeration system, Jager says. "From this refrigeration system, two pipes run to our climate control system. This makes it possible to use the residual heat from the refrigeration system sustainably for heating and hot water preparation."

No losses

The waste heat is temporarily stored in a buffer tank, while the refrigeration plant delivers cold directly and demand-controlled to the offices, he says. "To prevent heat and cold loss during transport through the cooling hall, for example, all pipes are carefully insulated."

Four-pipe system

To distribute the heating water and cooling water, Batenburg Installatietechniek uses a four-pipe system. "The office spaces are equipped with underfloor heating and induction units, which allow both heating and cooling," Jager says. "For the warehouse, fans with a heating coil were chosen, which also provide good mixing of the room air."

Sufficient fresh air

The air handling units on the roof are equipped with cross-flow heat recovery, allowing maximum energy recovery. "For the ventilation of the offices, canteen, warehouse, technical service area and washrooms, we installed six air treatment units. Four units are equipped with a cooling and heating coil, which pre-treats (heats or cools) the outside air before it is blown into the rooms."
