BioFreshi has outsourced the entire package of cooling installations to Van Kempen Koudetechniek. It not only has extensive experience in large-scale refrigeration projects, but also in projects with a BREEAM 'Outstanding' ambition. Add to this its specialism in ripening exotic products and it is clear why Van Kempen is the obvious party for this.

Van Kempen Koeltechniek supplies and installs the complete refrigeration technology for the shipping areas, corridors, cold rooms, processing areas and six ripening rooms. It also supplies the primary cold and heat for the offices. Frank Boeijen, sales manager of Van Kempen Koudetechniek, explains how these processes are connected. "The machine for the cold rooms runs on ammonia. This is a completely natural refrigerant with excellent cooling performance at low energy consumption. As long as there is a cold demand from the cells, residual heat is generated in the process. As a rule, this residual heat is sufficient to heat the entire office area. If the cold demand is temporarily not there, the system obtains heat from the outside air by means of an outside air cooler that functions as an air heat pump. In addition, the residual heat can be used for drying, heating and defrosting."

High quality

All cold rooms meet the highest quality standards, including BREEAM 'Outstanding'. The temperature is adjustable anywhere from 0 to 16°C. The desired temperature can easily be set for each cell from the central VK-Dynamics installation, a control system developed entirely within Van Kempen Koudetechniek.
