With the immense stocks that will soon be stored in KAVO's new building, the risks of fire had to be covered to the maximum. To this end, Hamer Installatietechniek installed the largest sprinkler head available. In combination with a 700 m3 water tank and a fire alarm system, the risk of fire is minimized.
The sprinkler head for KAVO is not only the largest of its kind, it was also the first time Hamer Installatietechniek installed it. It therefore prepared the job in detail. Using BIM, it also involved the surrounding parties. This prevented clashes and maximized the chances of a successful installation process.
Since the water tank could no longer be placed on the lot, the huge steel tank was placed in the warehouse. Spectacular was the moment when the pipes from the tank were extended to the roof. "This work was performed by alpinists," explains Yorick van Dijk, Firefighting Technology Project Manager. "They hoisted the pipes up with ropes and attached them to the roof."
The power with which the sprinkler system can extinguish an unexpected fire is enormous. Van Dijk: "Water flows through the head at a rate of 1,000 liters per minute. To create some image here: through the average shower head flows 6 liters per minute." The installation of the sprinkler and fire alarm system was familiar work for Hamer Installatietechniek and therefore went smoothly.
More impactful was the deadline. The total job had a time frame of about 20 weeks. To make this happen, Hamer Installatietechniek had to employ extra people. "Then we are glad that we are part of the FOJA Group. If we need additional expertise or extra manpower, we can always fall back on the holding company."
