People spend many hours every day indoors: at work, at school, in the sports hall, etc., but of course also at home. How well we feel depends to a large extent on the quality of the indoor air, the temperature in the building, etc. In short, on the indoor climate. Airtightness has a major influence on that indoor climate. During the realization of the bio-based Biosintrum in Oosterwolde, architect Paul de Ruiter and the building partners of Natuurlijk Bouwen B.V. paid a lot of attention to energy efficiency, sustainability and innovation. This is also how they ended up at Pro Clima. The specialist in innovative sealing systems for inside and outside developed and produced a new adhesive tape for this special building. This was applied in several places, resulting in optimum airtightness.
The foundation for today's Pro Clima was actually laid as early as 1978, when Lothar Moll, Managing Director of MOLL Bauökologische Produkte GmbH, started a consulting firm for ecological building. In the 1980s, the "Biological Island" was added, which included a trade in exclusively ecological building materials. "From 1985, the first films for convection protection and vapor control were developed, but the real launch of a full range of professional air sealing systems did not come until 1994 with the introduction of the Pro Clima brand," explains sales director Axel Schmidt. "Today Pro Clima has become a market leader in the development and production of complete sealing systems for indoor and outdoor use. We are active in more than 40 countries and have a team of experienced employees who are constantly looking for innovative solutions. Important here is the combination of know-how and experience with consideration for people and the environment. All products are developed in-house and must meet the most stringent environmental and air quality requirements."
Sealing systems for indoor and outdoor use
Pro Clima offers a wide range of solutions for making building elements airtight: vapor check and airtightness membranes made of building board and foil, under-roof and vapor retarding membranes with a monolithic membrane, tapes, connection adhesives and repair tape, ... just to name a few. "We want to help increase energy efficiency and reduce CO2-emissions. In addition, an efficient insulation construction avoids building damage and contributes to a healthy indoor environment and greater comfort," Schmidt points out. "We use only quality materials, which is why any independent institute is allowed to test our products. For example, the quality of our vapor control film INTELLO has been officially approved by the German Institute for Building Technology (DiBt) and is permanently monitored by the MFPA testing institute in Leipzig. In turn, an independent test by the University of Kassel confirms the long-term function and adhesive strength of the all-round tape TESCON VANA, even after 100 years. All products are also tested for harmful substances as standard."

Pro Clima supervised the project from A to Z and was also involved in the Blower Door Test, where the results far exceeded expectations.
Innovative adhesive tape for Biosintrum
The specialist from Schwetzingen, Germany, became involved last year through its Dutch partner Oldenboom B.V. in the prestigious Biosintrum project, one of the most sustainable and innovative buildings in Europe. Indeed, architect Paul de Ruiter and the construction partners of Natuurlijk Bouwen B.V. - a consortium of construction companies Buiteveld, Doornenbal and De Jong - were looking for an appropriate solution for making their energy-neutral, biobased building airtight. "During a conversation with the project managers of construction company Buiteveld, it immediately became clear what high demands were placed on this project. Moreover, all plans had already been drawn and construction had even started, which obviously did not make things any easier. While in other construction projects the tapes and other air sealing systems are mounted invisibly, here they would be clearly visible. That's why they had to be delivered in black," Axel Schmidt explains. "None of our standard products could be used, so we developed a new innovative adhesive tape that could be used in many different applications. For example, for sealing window frames. Thanks to good cooperation with the construction partners, assembly went very smoothly. The installation teams received thorough on-site training and we were always available to provide solutions to any questions or problems. Finally, we were also involved in the implementation of the blower door test, where the results achieved far exceeded expectations."
At Pro Clima and their Dutch partner Oldenboom B.V. they are very proud and satisfied. This reference project should help strengthen their position in the Dutch market.
