Commissioned by Aannemingsbedrijf Wouters Schijndel, Kanters Elektro is providing the complete electrical installation for the DC UTR06 project. Given the size and short lead time of the project and the additional requirements of the tenants, this is quite a challenging task, but the company has been entrusted with it, according to general manager Maarten Kanters.
"Together with Wouters Schijndel, we have already had the opportunity to realize many volume construction projects of this kind," Kanters says. "Yet this project is slightly different from others. For it consists of three warehouses and one parking garage being built simultaneously, totaling 59,000 m2. Initially the plan was to build the three warehouses one after the other, but shortly before the contract was awarded it became known that everything would have to be delivered almost simultaneously. That was of course a bit of a switch in a period when the supply chain is not nearly as self-evident as we are all used to! It was therefore immediately clear to us that we had to stay extra alert."
In terms of electrical engineering, Kanters Elektro is in fact providing the complete installation from the transformer station. "The electrical installation has been laid out to a BREEAM 'Excellent' score in every discipline," says project manager Patrick Beuse. "For example, the lighting is controlled everywhere by presence and it dims back to 10 percent when no activities are taking place. Several kWh meters have also been added to provide insight into energy consumption and prevent energy waste. Although Wouters Schijndel is our client, we are also in constant contact with the end users of the warehouses. In addition to Ahold, two other tenants, each with their own additional requirements, joined us during the construction process. This of course brings with it additional customization. For example, for one of the tenants we installed a separate 4,000 A busbar trunking for the electricity supply of the refrigeration and freezer cells."
"It is quite a puzzle to realize everything on time and to get the right materials in a time of scarcity, in more ways than one," Kanters knows. "Such an extensive and challenging project also requires optimal coordination with all other parties. We are well entrusted to do that and do it as much as possible with our own craftsmen and permanent temporary workers, with our own equipment and a healthy dose of Brabant work ethic. Because we prepare part of the installations in-house, we are able to react quickly and according to our own wishes. Flexibility and quality go hand in hand."
