Unique facade through collaboration of parties

A ceramic façade was developed for Brisk, elaborated in collaboration with Arons and Gelauff Architects by Kooistra Geveltechniek and specialist in architectural ceramics Royal Tichelaar. "A proven collaboration, which in this case focuses entirely on the production logistics of a sustainable facade with cachet," says director Murk Anne Kooistra.

Bouwkeramiek is a facade product that lasts a long time, which is important in the context of sustainability and the 50-year requirement, Kooistra continues. "Based on the total costs of ownership, a playful and unique facade is realized, with a lot of coordination between client and cooperating parties." The spearhead is logistics. "We do a lot with prefab, so the aluminum rear structure is prefabricated at our premises and assembled on site, after which the facade is finished with about 30,000 ceramic tiles produced at Koninklijke Tichelaar in Makkum."

Logistical alignment

Each of those tiles is unique in color, shape and shine - orange or brown and finished with a wave in the glaze. The ceramic tiles are extruded to the desired shape. Much of the tile finishing at Royal Tichelaar, the oldest company in the Netherlands, is handcrafted. "We work a lot with this manufacturer," says Kooistra. "Logistical coordination is facilitated as a result. We know what is needed for the engineering, production and assembly of the facade and Royal Tichelaar has the production capacity to work on such high-rise projects."

Precision work

Facade production is already underway and will take much of 2024, with the building expected to be delivered in the first half of 2025. Transport will be provided by Kooistra Geveltechniek. For each loading dock at the scaffolding, it is known exactly what quantities will be delivered where and when. "The aluminum construction will be mounted partly on timber frames and partly on concrete. Facade engineering is precision work down to the millimeter. We also provide the flashing linked to the rear construction and the assembly of the complete ceramic facade, as well as the concrete insulation of the end facades of Building 1."

Own signature

Building ceramics in combination with an aluminum rear construction, engineered by reputable parties, makes for an extremely durable facade, says the facade builder from Bolsward. "Durable in lifespan and detachable, so the facade scores high in the client's chosen BREEAM system. Taking into account the total costs of ownership of a material that lasts a long time, with Brisk the development parties realize a building with its own signature, whose facade looks different each time depending on the viewpoint."
