Amsterdam housing association Eigen Haard has signed a five-year agreement with Hemubo company Hillen&Roosen, TBI company ERA Contour and KBK Bouw for the construction of some 2,000 homes. This agreement focuses on chain cooperation.

For this year, it involves some 900 homes, spread across seven new construction projects in Amsterdam. This involves an amount of over 220 million euros.

In chain collaboration, all parties in the construction chain are at the table. Integration of design and execution reduces the risk of failure costs. The partners also go through different phases at the same time. That means shorter lead times. Chain cooperation is aimed at delivering the best product within the given budget. Affordable and sustainable homes where tenants live comfortably. To guarantee that, partners remain involved from the initial development to the first period of occupancy.

Continuous improvement

'Chain collaboration fits with our philosophy of continuous improvement,' says Danny Wijnbelt, director of development at Eigen Haard. 'And that is necessary. As Eigen Haard, we want to build 800 homes every year. That requires partners who want to be part of that improvement philosophy. Chain cooperation is the obvious way to go. For that to happen, it is important that you understand each other well, that you can call each other to account for the performance delivered and that you continue to improve together.

Looking into each other's kitchens

This is a great construction contract and a way for the three construction companies to develop. In this agreement, Hemubo, ERA Contour and KBK Bouw will also learn from each other. They work across projects and look behind the scenes at each other. This is not only inspiring but also helps them to keep each other on their toes.

hefty construction boost for the economy

The seven projects in the first tranche are in Amsterdam and include some 900 homes. The construction involves more than 220 million euros. 'The housing crisis is a fact and we need good builders,' says Danny Wijnbelt. 'It is therefore great that we can offer these construction partners the prospect of these new construction projects. It proves that corporations are investing in the housing market and in the economy. We would like to continue to do so and that the new cabinet will make this possible. For example, by abolishing the landlord levy'.
