Stable and load-bearing surface

Stable and load-bearing ground

Thorough with bearing. That is the motto of multidisciplinary contracting company Van de Beeten, which was also perfectly expressed in project Next Level Dorshout. At the project site on the Dorshout in Veghel, Van de Beeten provided all earthwork, underground infrastructure and site paving. "In addition, we ensured that Van Berlo Systeemfundingen, Van Berlo Bedrijfsvloeren and Bouwbedrijf van de Ven were able to carry out their work exactly according to schedule and from a stable and load-bearing foundation," says Peter Verbakel, manager of infrastructure projects at Van de Beeten. "Our cement-bound foundation played an essential role in this."

Work for Van de Beeten began in March 2021 with the excavation of the loading pits, excavation for the hall and leveling of the ground, says Verbakel. "We also installed the jacket pipes for cables and pipes, followed by a cement-bonded foundation." The cement-bonded foundation provides a more stable surface and better bearing capacity so that even the heaviest machines could enter the site, he says. "In addition, all construction parties were able to use the area around the hall as a construction site and the foundation served as the basis for the final paving. In this case, we opted for paving and asphalt, which we applied just before completion."

Shortly after applying the cement-bonded foundation, Van Berlo started on the foundation for the distribution center with offices, which Van de Beeten backfilled with sand. "This allowed the steel builder to continue building from a neat construction floor," Verbakel said. "Prior to assembling the roof, we laid the sewer system around the building, so that the rainwater drainage was also immediately properly arranged. Both the sewer and paving design were worked out in-house by us."

In this project, Van de Beeten applied its own unique cementitious foundation: Optiblend. "We transport the raw materials for this foundation ourselves by ship from Sluiskil to Oss," said Verbakel. "And we also collect the cement that is added to this with our own trucks. At our site in Oss there is a large mixing plant, where the material is carefully mixed. Thanks to our own trailers, the finished product can also be delivered under our own management to the project site, where our experienced drivers are responsible for processing and compaction. With this, clients are completely relieved." Major advantage of the finished product is its favorable Environmental Cost Indicator (MKI), which offers great benefits in BREEAM projects, he says. "In addition, our product has higher stability and compressive strength, the benefits of which were also reaped in this project."
