The knowledge base for healthy safe working in construction

What should you do if an accident occurs on the construction site? What rules apply when working with a crane, mobile scaffold or electrical equipment? And how do you ensure that everyone, from client to contractor, knows their responsibilities and complies with them? In a sector where health and safety are under pressure every day, up-to-date and practically applicable knowledge is indispensable. The Abomafoon offers a helping hand precisely there.

“The Abomafoon is a comprehensive knowledge base with all relevant information on safety, health and sustainability for the construction industry,” says editor-in-chief Petra Perik. “The platform is an initiative of Aboma and brings everything related to healthy and safe working together in one place. It is a useful tool for the entire construction chain: from design and preparation to execution, management and maintenance.”

Print and digital

The Abomaphon consists of two forms. “On the one hand, there is the book, which is still widely used as a practical reference work. This is printed once a year, is current until the second week of December and invariably appears in the third week of January,” said Maurik Schoonbeek, manager of Consultancy at Aboma. “On the other hand, there is the digital platform, which precisely excels in timeliness and flexibility. New developments, laws and regulations and current topics can be added here quickly, which makes the platform particularly valuable for professionals on the construction site.”

Broad target group

According to Schoonbeek, the Abomaphone's primary target audience consists of everyone who works on or around the construction site every day, such as executives, foremen, work planners and project managers. “In addition, more and more clients, architects and housing associations are also using the platform. After all, professional clients also have health and safety responsibilities within the chain. Abomafoon helps them understand their role and obligations and offers support in fulfilling them practically.”

Word and image

The strength of the Abomafoon lies in the combination of text and visual support, says Perik. ‘Besides clear explanations, the knowledge base contains graphic representations, such as diagrams of construction sites or lifting zones, checklists, toolboxes and links to relevant laws and regulations. We also take future technological applications into account so that the information is even more applicable on site.“

New risks

Current and practical topics are particularly popular, according to Perik. “Think of safe working with cranes, rolling scaffolds or new topics such as mobile energy storage systems and tools with lithium-ion batteries.” Schoonbeek adds: “These developments bring new risks and require clear guidelines. The Abomafoon actively responds to this by developing and publishing new topics.”

Aboma's ambition with the platform is clear: to reach as many people in the construction industry as possible and continue to develop together with users. “With a new website, more visual content and a more intuitive search function, we are making the platform increasingly accessible and practical,” Schoonbeek concludes. Through a subscription formula (individual or as a company license), users can always and everywhere have access to up-to-date knowledge around healthy and safe working. This makes the Abomafoon the knowledge base for healthy and safe working in the construction industry in the broadest sense of the word.
