Every day the professionals of Van Pommeren deliver high-quality steel stairs, fencing, balustrades, structures, frames and sheet metal. Customization is always central in this. Whether it is a single lintel or a complex structural solution.
"Our versatility is our strength," says director Leendert van Pommeren. "We work for both small contractors and large construction companies. This often involves specific projects, complex or otherwise, in which we think along from our expertise. For this we have all the people and resources in-house. From technical draughtsmen and engineers to a fully equipped workshop and our own assembly teams."
"The smaller contractors do not always have their own engineering department," continues Leendert van Pommeren. "In that case, we relieve them, from structural design to production and assembly. Of course, it is also possible that we only install a number of trusses, for example." Large contractors increasingly involve Van Pommeren in the construction team, in order to think along in feasible structural designs. In many cases, Van Pommeren is also responsible for making the detailed drawings and calculations, measuring the buildings in 3D, and producing and assembling the steelwork.
A fine example of a complex project to which Van Pommeren made a significant contribution is the renovation and rebuilding of the Koningsplein in Amsterdam. Leendert van Pommeren explains, "The biggest challenge on this project consisted of realizing a basement under ten monumental buildings. This required, among other things, the removal of the existing basement and first floor. The gap between the basement and the second floor was filled with a temporary support structure. We delivered and assembled this structure. In total, we placed thirty strut towers, which together accounted for 110 tons of auxiliary steel. We also delivered and assembled the final steel, stairs and fencing."
A project of a completely different nature is the realization of steel planters for an indoor garden at a residential building in Utrecht. With this, Van Pommeren shows its knowledge and skill in sheet metal work. "Those planters have not only a functional, but also an aesthetic purpose," says Leendert van Pommeren. "So the welding and sheet metal work has to look super sleek. We employ the right, certified welders and experienced fitters for this." Leendert van Pommeren mentions another example: "For an artist we produced and assembled a barge out of corten steel. We did this entirely in-house. Our production department, including a plasma cutter, cutting shears and bending bench, is fully equipped for this. This way, we don't have to outsource anything and are therefore not dependent on the planning and quality of third parties."
Besides unburdening you, thinking with you and making quality products, safety is of paramount importance. For example, Van Pommeren is certified according to NEN-EN 1090 class 3. "This means, among other things, that we are allowed to build special constructions and bridges," explains Leendert van Pommeren. "We also trace the origin of all materials used, so the customer can be sure that the right steel has been used." Partly because of this high safety standard, Van Pommeren received an order this year for the realization of a steel structure for a biomass power plant. "We make that steel structure around the machines," says Leendert van Pommeren. "So we also assemble above those machines. It takes the necessary preparation and craftsmanship to do such work safely and without damage. In that respect, I am incredibly proud of our people, both in the office and on the job. Together we put in great work time after time."
