Air doors and air dryers are better for the environment as well as your wallet

Air doors and air dryers are still relatively unknown. Also in the food industry, where Masterveil's air doors and air dryers offer great advantages. For example, to prevent condensation, increase (food) safety, prevent damage to the building and equipment, and guarantee fast passage for employees, materials and products. In the Netherlands, Masterveil products for the food industry are promoted and sold by Prodoor.

Masterveil puts its competition at a disadvantage with its narrow air discharge. This results in a highly controlled jet of air to shield the door.

The functioning of air doors is an interplay of humidity and air currents, which are continuously influenced. Particularly in the passageways of buildings, where people, equipment and products enter and leave all day long.

Ice disappears like snow in the sun

Air humidity is invisible drops of water incorporated into the air. A natural phenomenon that you don't notice at positive temperatures, but that is always there and can have a major impact on conditions in freezing cells, for example. Unfortunately, not all prescribers and engineers are aware of this, notes Ronnie Schiltmans, owner of Prodoor. "And that still regularly leads to unpleasant and even dangerous situations. When moisture from the air settles in the freezing cells and freezes namely, slippery floors are created. As a result, driving equipment such as forklifts can create dangerous situations for people, equipment and products. And we definitely don't want that! Masterveil's air doors and air dryers ensure that humidity no longer enters and/or is efficiently removed from the freezing cell. As a result, ice disappears like snow in the sun!

Better for the environment

Masterveil's products are produced largely in Sweden. "Masterveil's air doors and air dryers are custom made and better for the environment," says Schiltmans. "The Scandinavian countries value nature and lead the way in environmentally conscious product development and production. Masterveil also puts its competition at a disadvantage because of the narrow discharge of air. This results in a highly controlled air jet to shield the door. In this way, the single and double arrangement of the Masterveil Powerstream provides fundamentally lower energy consumption. Depending on the type of arrangement, savings of up to 80% can be achieved. This makes this patented air door indispensable in any passageway from cold store to cold room or ambient room, when no ice or condensation must be the outcome of the investment." Because the Masterveil Powerstream is produced locally in Belgium, transport movements and CO2-emissions to a minimum.

Prevent building and equipment failures

Moisture in freezer cells can also lead to breakdowns in technical equipment and pipes. This can cause the freezing function to fail, causing products to heat up and possibly no longer be traded. Masterveil air doors and air dryers can also effectively overcome this risk.

Condensation leads to food insecurity

Condensation (formation) occurs when moist air comes into contact with cold materials, resulting in small visible droplets of water. When these droplets detach by gravity from roofs, ceilings or, for example, the bottom frames of industrial doors and end up on open food, food insecurity can result.

Air doors accelerate processes

Industrial doors are necessary against burglary, for room separation and for insulation, Schiltmans knows. "In high-frequency passages, however, industrial doors are only a nuisance because users have no patience for opening and closing the doors. After all, this slows down processes. When passageways are in almost continuous use, the need for an insulated door solution is less and less important. In these places, it is worth considering opting for an air door, in combination with a refrigerated sliding door and/or high-speed door. This also provides benefits with respect to food safety. After all, food attracts insects, which look for food. These insects are very small and well able to enter through the smallest openings. Even through openings that the human eye does not perceive. Only active air separation deters them. Since pests are one of the contaminations that the NVWA is increasingly stringent in monitoring, an air solution is again to be considered."

Avoid unforeseen costs due to collision damage

Industrial doors used in frequent and high-frequency passages are most likely to be hit by motorized equipment. "This can be due to frozen floors, which make it difficult or impossible for equipment to brake," Schiltmans knows. "But also because, for various reasons, employees do not wait until the industrial doors are opened far enough. Collision damage leads to unforeseen costs, which are often not budgeted for. To avoid these relatively high costs for replacement door blades as much as possible, Prodoor offers various prevention measures. These include radars, which monitor the area in front of and behind the industrial door for equipment present. But also traffic lights and instruction signs in different languages, given the many nationalities operating in the food industry."

Humidity in freezers also leads to the freezing of technical equipment and pipes. Damage to these components can lead to the failure of the freezing function, causing products to heat up and possibly become unmarketable.

No corrosion

When droplets of water come into contact with unprotected steel, rust forms. This rust formation affects the operation of industrial doors, among other things, and as a result can lead to functional disruptions and danger to people, equipment and products. Air drying prevents condensation and thus the chance of rust formation. "Masterveil's air separation products differ from traditional systems in custom-made designs, installation options and are available in various steel grades and colors," Schiltmans said.

InSpire center

In Prodoor's InSpire center in Apeldoorn, a real food environment has been recreated, with sandwich panels and passages with industrial doors. Temperature differences have also been created to maximize the experience of Masterveil's products.

About Prodoor

Prodoor was founded in 2005 and over the years transformed from a door supplier to a total service provider in premium industrial door solutions. "A logical development when you actually want to help end users," says Schiltmans, who still experiences daily during service work what consequences incorrect choices in the development phase can bring about. "All too often, passages are still provided with incorrect door solutions," he says. "Think, for example, of doors that are unsuitable for the number of door movements per day, insufficiently insulated or inadequately protected against condensation and ice formation. Moreover, solutions are still too often sought with doors alone, while large temperature differences and high-frequency use call for a solution with air doors and air drying. We want to save end users and specifiers from these mistakes, so that end users will not forever be faced with disproportionately high service and maintenance costs."

Prodoor has its own project office for this purpose and works in BIM if required. "Our team has several structural engineers and experienced practitioners, which means we can also handle the engineering of projects. By making all wishes, requirements, preconditions and budgets clear at an early stage, clients do not encounter (nasty) surprises during procurement, execution, delivery and use."

About Masterveil

Masterveil has more than 30 years of experience in product development for production environments. From cold rooms to freezer rooms, logistics areas, production halls and warehouses. The company provides ready-made solutions for climate separation, air humidification and dehumidification, taking into account the production process, the products and the people. By working with local partners in each country, the company actively works to ensure the shortest possible lines between customers and project follow-up.
