Zoetermeer builds healthiest urban district in Randstad: Entree

The municipality of Zoetermeer and seven private owners signed on February 5, 2020 the cooperation agreement for the development of the healthiest urban district of the Randstad: Entree. An important milestone in the redevelopment of the area along the A12 motorway, the Mandela Bridge and both sides of the Afrikaweg.

Wethouder Entree Marc Rosier: "In the coming years, Zoetermeer will take a new path. We will no longer grow by building in the outlying area, but will increasingly use opportunities to strengthen the existing city. We want to make Entree the showpiece of the new Zoetermeer. The signing is an important milestone in the cooperation, showing that all parties have confidence in the future development of the area.''

Healthy neighborhood

The new urban district will be the healthiest urban district in the Randstad. The unique character of the gasless and energy-neutral district is aimed at getting people to be outdoors and exercise. The green environment of parks, green roofs and facades and the local production of fruits and vegetables have a positive effect on health and livability. An important feature of this is the mix of functions: living, working and facilities such as stores and bars, multifunctional use of buildings and public areas, housing for different target groups and an attractive and highly varied built environment and public space.

Development

The pressure on the housing market in Zoetermeer is great and increasing rapidly. Some 700 homes per year are needed to meet the demand. Zoetermeer wants to build 10,000 homes over the next 10 to 15 years. In the coming years, about 4,500 homes will rise in Entree. This makes it the main site for the city's growth from 125,000 to 150,000 residents. The development of Entree into a high-quality and lively urban district will be phased over the next ten years. The information point at Boerhaavelaan 11 will also show all the plans in the coming years. The Municipality of Zoetermeer is area director, 90% of the area is privately owned. Together they will work for the next ten years on the optimal redevelopment of the new urban district.
Over the next few months, the municipality will work out a development agreement with the various owners in Entree to finalize the various sites. They are:

  1. The Council
  2. Van Omme & de Groot
  3. Merin
  4. Hillborgh
  5. Chadmin
  6. Hotel Zoetermeer
  7. Cloverleaf Insurance
