Painting company Groenenboom refurbished the flats inside and out with a new coat of paint, in colors that revive old times.
"Based on the request from housing corporation Vestia, we thought along with contractor Van Wijnen about the execution," says Groenenboom director Maarten Spreij. "Among other things, we carried out a technical inspection, on the basis of which we drew up a paint technical recommendation. We also contributed to the sampling of the right colors. Because of the monumental status of the flats, Vestia had commissioned a large-scale historical color study. The colors that resulted from that had to be replicated as precisely as possible."

Groenenboom also thought along in the creation of the lean planning. In order to achieve the most efficient execution cycle possible, all work was seamlessly coordinated. Spreij: "Our work consisted of both exterior and interior painting. Think of the wooden façade frames and doors, the steelwork, the concrete façade bands and the stairwells. In the homes, we mainly performed sauce work."

In addition to painting, Groenenboom repaired wood rot in the facade frames on the gallery side. At these window frames, the glazing was also replaced. With special glazing bars, provided with a specific treatment, the original "putty look" was obtained. This treatment had a very long drying time, which meant that the painting work could be carried out later than planned. "At such unforeseen moments, it comes down to cooperation," Spreij emphasizes. "Thanks in part to good communication with Van Wijnen and Vestia, and the flexibility of all parties, the work all came out well in the end."
