The construction of the 400 student housing units at the Utrecht Science Park has started. On January 6, the first pile was struck. The construction period is short: the first residence will be ready for rent at the end of April this year, the last in June. Camelot Europe will manage the complex for a period of 15 years.
From pasture to site of new homes
The work will take place in the meadow south of Building Androclus and east of the parking lot on Bologna Avenue. Jan Snel builds the residential building, Peek Construction & Infra provides a plaza, access road, bicycle path, bicycle parking facilities and greenery.
Affordable housing for students
The housing complex will have independent units with their own facilities, which will be delivered furnished and unfurnished. The (international) students of Utrecht University can therefore move in immediately. To meet the demand for affordable housing in Utrecht, the rent of the dwellings is below the liberalization threshold, so that it is possible for the residents to apply for rent allowance. The rent of a quarter of the houses is below the rent allowance limit for 23-year-olds, so that younger students also have the opportunity to live here affordably.
In addition to studios, common areas will be built in the complex. There will be a large central hall with meeting rooms, study areas and a laundry room. By facilitating contact with fellow residents in this way, Camelot is encouraging the creation of a community in the complex.
Camelot Europe and Jan Snel collaboration
Camelot Europe and Jan Snel previously worked together successfully in developing a housing project. In Amsterdam they realized WASA Student Village, a unique 'student village' where students, young people and status holders live together. In the project in Utrecht Camelot Europe and Jan Snel are joint investors. Jan Snel is responsible for the construction of the student housing and Camelot Europe for the management of the complex.
