Preanodized aluminum
The new branch of Loogman Carwash in Hoofddorp was fitted with aluminum frames and curtain walls and steel, fire-resistant interior frames by facade construction company J.M. van Delft & zn. of Drunen.
Main contractor Löwik Bouw asked Van Delft if the company could work out aluminum window frames and curtain walls for this project. Project manager Berry Bruurmijn: "There were already drawings from the architect and working drawings. Of course, we did the detailing and engineering of the facades ourselves." Van Delft produces the window frames and curtain walls itself. "In total, we produced 43 m2 of window frames and 575 m2 of curtain wall for this project. We also supplied steel fire-resistant interior window frames."
This is not the first time Van Delft has produced facades for a branch of Loogman Carwash. "In principle, it doesn't matter to us what destination the building has. In this case, however, there were some things to take into account. Aluminum does not rust, but it can oxidize and then the coating comes off. In a carwash, the coating gets a harder time because of the use of soap. Therefore, we pre-anodized the aluminum parts and a different sealant was applied between the glazing."
Van Delft's fitters were on site at an early stage. Once the aluminum window frames and curtain walls were installed, the inside was wind and watertight and finishing work could begin. The curtain walls were installed before the final steel cladding was installed. "The cladding consists of two parts, so the finishing plate was placed after we had set and glazed the curtain wall. Finally, we were able to finish the curtain walls. This is a large, long curtain wall, consisting of a number of segmented sections. So the building looks round, but they are actually straight sections that are segmented."
Last spring, Van Delft in Hoofddorp put the finishing touches to the project and the building was delivered and put into use last September. J.M. van Delft & zn. is satisfied with the course of the project. "The assembly of the facades went very smoothly and we had no setbacks, thanks to Löwik Bouw."
