Custom construction site equipment: from construction elevators to construction huts

On Amsterdam's Oostenburgeiland, the Werkspoor hall is being transformed into a central meeting place. Right next door, four residential blocks - each with its own character - are being built and combined with commercial spaces. The layout of the building site, enclosed by water, adjacent construction and not to mention Amsterdam's traffic, did require some inventiveness.

For the optimal layout of the construction site - totaling 11,000 m2 - Homines Bouw engaged at an early stage RECO in. She inventoried the supplies and thought about the best location for the equipment. "The question was not only 'What is needed?'" says Edwin Verpoort, RECO's commercial director. "But also 'Where and why?' There is a lot involved in a project of this size. Just think of water and electrical connections at any height, construction huts, scaffolding, construction hoists, security, construction fencing and sliding gates. And then it all has to be installed on time, too."

Construction site installations customized and per construction phase

To keep energy costs as low as possible, RECO calculated the amount of water and power required per phase. It then issued a reasoned recommendation to request a 250 kVA connection. "Once the calculation was agreed, we installed a custom-built construction meter box, distribution boxes and water supplies as a base. As construction progressed, the high-rise installation was expanded to include distribution boxes and water supplies at each height. We also took care of the fencing and electric sliding gates."

Vertical transport: scaffolding, stair towers and construction elevators

Vertical transportation was also planned together. "As soon as the building blocks went up in height, scaffolding, stair towers and construction elevators were needed. Thanks to a clever scaffolding design, we were able to make do with three passenger-goods elevators. This meant considerable savings for Homines on rent, energy and space."

Energy-efficient construction shack

Placing the construction chains was a challenge in itself. Due to the limited space, the chains had to be placed directly under the steel structure of the Werkspoor hall. "Fortunately no problem for our drivers
and housing mechanics. The construction huts are complete with toilets and furniture, fully environmentally friendly heated and lit."

'Successful projects we make together'

"It takes knowledge and experience to set up a construction site effectively. That's why we stay involved throughout the implementation period. A great convenience for the contractor. He can arrange his entire equipment with one supplier, who also does the calculation." In the total Oostenburg project, RECO acted as the external equipment service for three of the five construction companies with a customized equipment package for each construction site. This support allowed the construction companies to as efficiently
build possible.
