Safety first at Wonderwoods: fireproof terminations for partitions

In the bustling heart of Utrecht, next to the Jaarbeurs, you will find Wonderwoods. A project that brings living, working and nature together in the form of a vertical park. In this green project, contractor Kondor Wessels and Safeprofiel join forces to finish the interior spaces efficiently and fire-safely.

Sander Vlaanderen of Kondor Wessels received an informative e-mail about Safeprofiel. And that immediately aroused his interest: "The alternatives to Safeprofile are aesthetically less attractive. So for the processing of clean adhesive work for the interior spaces of Wonderwoods, the choice fell on Safeprofiel. The company supplies fire-resistant connections for sand-lime brick and concrete brick walls, eliminating the need for capping battens. Pur and sealant are also unnecessary. It is a demountable product and therefore fits perfectly into Wonderwoods' sustainability requirements."

Innovation in adhesive technology

Safeprofile offers some clear advantages over traditional adhesive work. Joop Kolkman, sales manager at Safeprofiel, explains: "Safeprofile allows the adhesive worker to work much more efficiently. Traditional methods require multiple steps and materials, such as drilling anchors and supplying blocks. Safeprofile greatly simplifies this process, saving considerable time." Safeprofile also has excellent fire-resistant properties. "Our products have been tested by Peutz and Efectis and offer 60 to 90 minutes of fire resistance depending on the wall thickness. That makes it an ideal choice for a project like Wonderwoods: safety and sustainability thus go hand in hand."

Without additional finishing

The use of Safeprofile? It is simple and flexible. "The profile is attached to the stone or concrete structure with nail anchors," Kolkman explains. "One places the insulation material and the adhesive blocks directly, without the need for additional finishing. The ends of the blocks disappear, as it were, into the profile. This gives an aesthetically sleek result."

For Wonderwoods, Safeprofiel was applied over four kilometers of walls. "Because it's not a straightforward project, we did a lot of custom work," Kolkman says. "We made profiles for special corners, different lengths and L arrangements. This customization ensures that the system fits seamlessly with Wonderwoods' complex architecture. Safeprofile is demountable, which means it can be reused or recycled. This makes it not only a smart, but also a sustainable choice. In short: the combination of saving time, saving materials and the possibility of reuse makes Safeprofiel unique of its kind. Just like Wonderwoods."
