Living on the "sunny side" of The Hague, project developers MRP and Vorm call the De Zuid project. We are talking about a completely new district on the former Norfolk site around Scheveningen's Third Harbour. This new neighborhood is located behind the dunes of the Zuiderstrand, near the quays around the harbor. The entire project is a unique mix of apartments and ground-level homes. A total of 400 homes will be built. The apartments offer views over the dunes, beach and sea or the bustling harbor. The ground-level homes are in the lee of the apartments and form a kind of village. Over the next few years, De Zuid will continue to grow. ZuidDuin and ZuidHaven have already been realized. MRP and VORM are now developing ZuidKade. The window frames are and will be supplied by Facédo of Velp. We speak with superintendent Ben Slebus and project manager Bram Leijser.
"Project section ZuidHaven consists of 9 ground-level houses and 60 apartments," Leijser lists. "For the ground-level homes, we incorporated a total of 385 m2 of plastic window frames, and for the apartments no less than 2,718 m2 of aluminum window frames and then another 215 m2 of aluminum curtain walls." When asked what brands and types of window frames were supplied by Facédo, Slebus replied, "The plastic window frames are from K-VISION, type Cube. This is a recessed window frame series. The aluminum window frames and curtain walls come from Kawneer, the Kawneer RT72 Reflex 1.2 flat, insulated window frames and the Kawneer AA100Q insulated curtain wall series, respectively. The sliding doors featured in the work are also from Kawneer." Leijser adds, "The Reflex 72 series of frames is fire-resistant for 30 minutes. The aforementioned curtain walls are located at the commercial areas."
Everything was supplied unglazed by Facédo. Slebus explains: "We worked behind the completion of the scaffolding. The glazing came into the frames after they were assembled, so we made everything wind and watertight on each floor. Speaking of wind and water: there was a challenge there, on the coast. On the scaffolding, you're in the full wind and that, combined with the pace at which work had to be done to keep up with the completion of the scaffolding, was quite a challenge." At the time of this interview, Vorm Bouw B.V. had begun preparations for Phase 2: ZuidKade. Leijser says in conclusion, "Phase 2 consists of 14 ground-level homes and 75 apartments. All in all, a wonderful project in a particularly beautiful location."
