The Waalsprong is busy developing. The combination of nature and city around the corner makes it a popular place to live. The Stadstuin is no exception. Some of the houses are still on the rise, but the residents of the completed homes are busy moving in. Walking through the neighborhood, you see people hanging curtains, painting walls and gardening. Even the first birth sign is already hanging on a facade! In this sunny spring, The City Garden is blossoming into a vibrant neighborhood!
The project consists of the new construction of 115 ground-level homes in various rental and owner-occupied segments in the Waalsprong, Nijmegen. The plan, commissioned by the Klokgroep, is located in the Stadstuin. On the east side, the site is bordered by the old ribbon the griftdijk, on the south side by the historic garden and on the west side by the Italiëstraat. This city street with its service road will be an important gateway from the Waalsprong to the center of Nijmegen. With the Honig complex and the old center of Nijmegen just 5 minutes by bike, the Stadstuin is in a prime location.
In the urban planning subdivision of opZoom, the accompaniment of the city street is one of the motifs. The robust, almost monolithic building blocks with Delft sidewalk underscore the urban character of Italy Street. These spacious single-family houses have a vertical and playful articulation of the facade where the brick dormer provides the necessary height and the concealed gutter and blended washstrich masonry guarantee the allure.
On Griftdijk, a larger grain was chosen for the ribbon. These life-proof houses refer to the agricultural barns by an asymmetrical roof, variation in facade openings and dark, wooden cladding.
The inner area/yard has a somewhat looser and greener character. Low-density housing is designed around the green courtyard. The blocks are shorter and staggered with respect to the building line, while the roof directions are also varied. These houses are further elaborated by Inbo architects.
Throughout the plan, the transitions private - public are carefully designed. Besides the Delft sidewalk on the city street, the front and side gardens are bordered with hedges and brick piers. In addition, the continuous open end walls provide a pleasant all-sided building.
