Minimal energy losses, maximum fire safety

Insulation company Hanenberg BV and Fire Prevention Hanenberg BV can build on 60 years of knowledge and experience in thermal, acoustic and fire-resistant insulation and finishes. In recent years, the Waalwijk-based companies have been involved in a variety of beautiful and challenging projects in non-residential construction, light industry and the food industry. For example, the companies were recently involved in the Booking.com City Campus in Amsterdam, where approximately 12 employees were commissioned by Klimaatservice Holland and Hakkesteegt Installatietechniek to take care of the insulation of the mechanical and sanitary installations and the fire-resistant and acoustic seals.

The work for Booking.com started over 2.5 years ago with the thermal and acoustic insulation of the mechanical and sanitary installations. Both in the large technology rooms in the basement and on all floors and from central heating and cooling pipes to water pipes, sewers, rainwater drains, pumps and fittings, so that energy losses during transport are not an issue. "This not only benefits energy efficiency, but also reduces energy bills," says Ad Bos on behalf of Insulation Company Hanenberg BV and Fire Prevention Hanenberg BV. "Based on the installation drawings, we determined the right insulation materials, lengths and working method." For thermal insulation, the company uses ROCKWOOL wool shells (central heating pipes and hot water pipes) combined with an Armaflex elastomeric insulation (cooling pipes and cold water pipes). "Whereas the wool shells prevent energy loss during hot water transport, the insulation of the cold water pipes and fittings primarily serves to reduce heating, condensation and - as a result - corrosion." The rainwater drains and sewers are acoustically insulated with Jacomassa.

Fire protection devices

In order to prevent the spread of fire, smoke and toxic gases during emergencies, Fire Prevention Hanenberg BV has installed a variety of fire-resistant materials from market leader Rudolf-Hensel. "From fire-resistant rock wool panels to fire sleeves, thermal coatings, graphite sealants and foams. In addition, we implemented various acoustic seals to prevent cross-talk sound from one room to another," Bos said. "With that, the realization of the Booking.com City Campus was a big job."

Limited accessibility, considerable walking distances

One challenge in particular was the raised floors, he says. "Accessibility to our workstations was sometimes limited. And although the new building has only eleven floors, the surfaces and thus walking distances were considerable. Moreover, we were working with many parties in the same places, which required good communication and coordination. Especially toward completion." Both the thermal, acoustic and fireproof materials were delivered to a hub, from where they were transported by electric carts to the City Campus and prepared on the appropriate floor sections. "As a result, our employees never missed out. This approach has worked incredibly well for us."
