From aluminum windows to doors and curtain walls
For more than 35 years Thermo Konstrukties BV has been designing, producing and assembling top quality aluminum windows, doors and curtain walls. Both for residential and utility projects. "Aluminum is durable, low-maintenance and of very high quality," says director Albert Derks. "The material has excellent weather resistance and retains its aesthetic value even after a long period of time. In addition to the many projects we carry out in cooperation with architects, contractors and other clients, our own new building in Cuijk is also telling proof of this."
Thermo Konstrukties BV has its own modern equipped production hall in Cuijk, where semi- and fully automatic CNC machines guarantee high quality and accurate dimensions. A bending shop is also set up here for bending aluminum sheet metal, Derks says. "At the beginning of this year, the production hall was expanded with a 2,600 m2 large new building, in which all aluminum frames, windows, doors and curtain wall elements can be stored safely, warm and dry. We are going to use the space freed up in our production hall to prefabricate facade elements with frames and glass. A service that we believe is the future, now that construction has to be done faster and faster with less manpower. In our production hall, our craftsmen can work under the best climatic and working conditions, which benefits their long-term employability. Moreover, the quality of our products is further increased. For example, the risk of glass breakage decreases, as does the number of handling operations on the construction site. The contractor can hoist the elements very easily and just-in-time from the truck to the right locations on the facade, where it is just a matter of screwing in the nuts and bolts. This creates a wind and watertight facade in no time."
To meet the growing demand for prefabricated finishing, Thermo Konstrukties BV plans to grow to 20 permanent production employees. In addition, a new CNC machine was added in October, Derks says. Various products have been integrated into the new building, such as aluminum tubes, facades and infill frames.
Thermo Konstrukties BV is often involved in new construction and renovation projects as early as the advisory phase. "In this phase, we proactively think along with the client, architect and contractor to arrive at the correct appearance and detailing/connection of the façade elements," Derks said. "After the calculation and quotation process, our work planners take care of the BIM elaboration of the elements, after which production is also started from this BIM model. All products are transported to the construction site including hinges and locks, where our own skilled fitters or a third party takes care of the assembly. Completely in accordance with the VMGR and our own terms and conditions. In doing so, clients deal with a single point of contact, who coordinates the project from A to Z." Underlying all windows, doors and curtain walls are Reynaers aluminum profile systems.
Thermo Konstrukties BV is currently involved in the construction of the Niko Tower/Lighthouse, which, at 109 meters tall, will become a striking landmark in the Strijp-S skyline. The tallest residential tower in Eindhoven will be built by Stam + De Koning and will be partly prefabricated. "Our aluminum facade elements will naturally go along with this. In total, we are supplying and assembling 7,850 m2 aluminum window frames and 1,000 m2 curtain walls, which are delivered to the project fully glazed and assembled using a lifting yoke," says Derks. "They are immediately hoisted in as soon as a floor is completed."
Also of great interest is Stam + De Koning's Nieuw Bergen project, which is being built in the heart of Eindhoven. "For this project - which consists of five new buildings and two renovation properties - we are producing and assembling 7,230 m2 aluminum window frames and 300 m2 curtain walls." A third project in Eindhoven is the new office building for HTC-91 on the High Tech Campus, says Derks. "Commissioned by Bouwbedrijf van de Ven, we are producing and supplying 1,800 m2 aluminum window frames for the floors, as well as 2,500 m2 curtain walls for the benefit of the tower. Special in this project is that the elements are not glazed in Cuijk, but in the carpentry factory of Bouwbedrijf van de Ven. Moreover, the elements are prepared in such a way that insulation and airtightness are guaranteed all at once." A final project that he likes to highlight is the new building for Eurofast in Deurne. "For Bouwbedrijf van de Ven, we are making approximately 110 m2 aluminum window frames and 1,000 m2 curtain walls, which are already engineered in detail in advance. This allows even faster work."
