Air-to-water heat pump with air convectors

A3 Refrigeration and Freezing Technology provides a pleasant climate in the new premises of window covering manufacturer Coulisse in Enter: Coulisse Campus. "The client attaches great importance to a pleasant working climate for its employees," said A3.

A3 Koel- en Vriestechniek has been making central cooling systems and industrial heat pump systems for companies in food and industry for nearly 25 years. The specialist in cooling and freezing technology regularly works for the Dutch family business Coulisse. Director Jorn Slaghekke of A3 Koel- en Vriestechniek: "When we heard there were new construction plans, we applied. The project was put out to tender and we eventually won that tender."

Constant temperature

A3 is responsible for cooling and heating of the warehouse and climate control of the offices. "This client values a constant temperature in order to provide a pleasant working environment for the employees in the hall. We chose for this project for the warehouse an air/water heat pump that can cool and heat with air convectors. For the offices, we chose a 3-pipe VRF system and an air/water heat pump for the underfloor heating. The total heating capacity is 700 kW," Slaghekke said. 

High quality level

The work is not unfamiliar to A3, which is more likely to work in such large projects. Slaghekke says that the high level of quality of the building and installation is exceptional, though. "It is a beautiful building anyway and a great reference for us. In addition, all the piping is stainless steel, to prevent corrosion. That is a bit more expensive, but it reduces the chance of problems. Should you use steel piping with this system and corrosion occurs, you get serious contamination of the refrigeration exchanger and the efficiency decreases severely."

A3 also supplied a large fire safe for storing lithium-ion batteries. Should anything go wrong in the vault, it would be sealed and any toxic fumes and smoke would be removed. A total of six people from A3 Koel- en Vriestechniek have been working on the project in Enter for about three months. Cooperation with the other parties on the construction site went smoothly, including regular construction meetings.
