Circular and detachable cladding and tiles

For circularity, it is important that building materials are mechanically attached so that they can be disassembled when demolished. For facades and tiles, Fassat found a solution: the Overijssel-based company supplies detachable facade systems and floor tiles.

"There are two sides to circularity and detachability," says Gerrit Tadema, director-owner of Fassat. "There is the idealistic story: it is important to use raw materials sparingly, emit less CO2 and so on. But there is also the economic story: circularity is also good for the wallet. The knife cuts both ways."

"Detachability is not in our culture," says Tadema. "The turnaround needed in construction is huge. As the MPG score limit gets lower, it becomes increasingly important for contractors to find circular solutions. That challenge appeals to me. I started looking for a way to assemble facades detachable."

Facades

This led to the introduction a year ago of the demountable NoviBrick systems: NoviBrick stone strips, NoviBrick terracotta panels and the larger stone strips under the name NoviBrick Tiles. Tadema: "These are ventilated systems. The method: we screw slats to the studs of the HSB elements, so that an air cavity of 2 cm is created. We then screw the profiles onto these laths and hook the brick strips or BrickTiles into them. So the assembly is simple. You don't need a tiler or bricklayer, a big advantage now that these professionals are becoming scarce. In addition, with our system you are less dependent on the weather than with bricklaying and gluing."

Floor Tiles

In addition to the releasable facade systems, Fassat provides ceramic floor tiles. Tadema: "When we were setting up our showroom, it dawned on me how crazy it is that floor tiles are glued on. If you want a different color after a few years, you have to demolish the high-quality tiles. I started looking for floor tiles that you can detachably install and ended up with the DryTile from Agrob Buchtal. Now we are an importer of those. We are now bringing these tiles to the attention of architects and interior designers. For example, in bathroom renovations of housing associations and hotels, this tile is a godsend."

New opportunities

"Circularity is going to play a big role in construction and in all levels of the economy," Tadema concludes. "That offers a lot of new opportunities. We are now also working on a dry stacking system, so a way to stack facing bricks without cement. I'm always looking around to see what can be improved."
