Klimaatservice Holland provided the new Gilde Vakcollege Techniek building in Gorinchem with a complete W installation. To emphasize the technical character of the school, minimal use was made of ceilings so that the installation parts were visible. "The cooperation with the client and the school's management and teachers went smoothly."
The Gilde Vakcollege Techniek is the largest technical vmbo school in the Netherlands. The new school building is designed so that technical education can be provided just as it is in practical situations. The building has a floor area of some 11,460 m2 and is energy-neutral.
Klimaatservice Holland was asked to install the W-installation for the new school building. Project Manager Tino den Besten: "The installation consists of air handling units with heat recovery and air/water heat pumps. We also took care of the tap water facilities." Klimaatservice also engaged Bus Installaties for the user installation for the school's practice rooms, such as compressed air, various gases for welding and (in preparation for the future) a pipeline for hydrogen.
The work started for Klimaatservice Holland about two years ago with the preparation and in May 2023 the tap water and central heating pipes were already laid in the foundation. In stages, the remaining work was then carried out. For example, the air handling units had to be brought inside before the roof was sealed. Once the school building was wind and watertight, Klimaatservice Holland got to work installing the systems and finally finishing and adjusting them. Finally, the company set up part of the practical engineering area for the school where students can learn the installation trade. On the inside of the building, most of the installation was carried out as visible work: the central heating piping, the ducts and the air distribution hoses are clearly visible.
During the work, some additional work did come up. "During the course of the work, it turned out that a smoke detector was not provided in every room, which was required by the applicable fire safety requirements. We were able to install them in the ventilation ducts afterwards. That created extra work, but ultimately went well with a smoke test as proof that it met the inspection requirements."
The new school building has now been completed and the students will move to the new location after the Christmas vacations. Den Besten: "The project went smoothly. It was not a complicated installation for us, but it was labor intensive due to the length of the building. The cooperation with the client, side contractors and principal and teachers of the school was very pleasant."
